I’m Jon, a home networking pro, and I frequently log into router admin pages. I put this guide together to help you access your Arris router.
So, continue reading to learn how.
What You Need Before Accessing Arris Router
There are a few essential steps you need to complete before accessing your Arris Router. Follow the below steps before you attempt to access its admin panel.
Internet Connection
First, ensure your Arris router is connected to the Internet. Take a look at its indication lights on the front. If the “WAN” or “INTERNET” light is lit up and solid, you have a solid Internet connection.
Alternatively, you can connect a device to its network and try to load any webpage. If it does not have a connection, troubleshoot and contact your ISP.
Connection to Your Network
Once you verify the Arris router’s Internet connection, connect a device to its network. You can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet; both work fine. If you use Wi-Fi, just make sure you stay within range.
Steps to Access Your Arris Router From Web Browser
After checking for an Internet connection and your device’s connection to your Arris router’s network, you can log into its admin panel.
Follow the steps below to access your Arris router.
#1 Open your browser and open the network configuration page
Open a window of your favorite Internet browser. You can use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Brave, etc. But if you have any issues, try a different browser.
In your browser’s URL bar, type the IP address 192.168.0.1 into the URL bar, and press enter or return.
If a login window does not load, your router might have a different IP address. In that case, use the below steps to find your router’s IP address on Windows and Mac computers:
- On Macs: Open System Preferences, click on Network, click Advanced, and select the “TCP/IP” tab. The Arris router’s IP address will be next to “Router.”
- On Windows: Open Command Prompt, type “IPCONFIG” and press the Enter key. The Arris router’s IP address will be next to “Default Gateway.”
#2 Log in with your credentials
Once you enter the correct IP address in your web browser, a login page will load.
It will ask for a username and password; use the below credentials to log in:
- Username: admin
- Password: password
- Sometimes the password will be blank/nothing
However, if you changed the password, use that instead. [1] You need to reset your router if you don’t remember the password. However, this will delete all custom configurations and settings, which include your SSID (network name), Wi-Fi password, and more.
To reset the Arris router, find the “reset” button on its bottom or back. Press and hold it for 10+ seconds until the lights go off and turn back on.
After the reset is complete, the username and password will return to the default ones. If your login page does not load at all, reboot your device and router, turn off your firewall, clear the browser’s cookies, and try again.
#3 Access your administration page
Once you input the correct login information and hit enter, your Arris router’s admin page will load. You will be able to see several menus with settings that you can view and adjust.
What You Can Configure in Your Arris Router Settings
You can adjust several network settings on your Arris router’s admin panel. Here are the most frequent ones people change:
Basic Settings
In the basic settings tab on your Arris router’s admin panel, you can view and change the following settings:
- SSID (network name): The name of your router’s Wi-Fi network [2]
- Security: Adjust WPA/WPA2 PSK settings and make a pre-shared key
- WPS settings: Enable/disable WPS and make a device PIN code
- Change Wi-Fi password
Advanced Settings
Besides the Basic Setup tab, you can navigate to the WAN setup, LAN setup, Wireless Setup, Firewall, and Utilities tabs. Within each, you can adjust several settings. However, I suggest leaving them alone unless you know what you are doing.
However, these settings can come in handy if you’re having network issues or require a custom configuration. Here is a snapshot of what you can change:
- WAN
- LAN
- IPv6 and IPv4
- 2.4 and 5 GHz channels
- VPN
- Administration
- System Log
- Firewall
- Network Tools
Most homeowners will never need to adjust any of these settings. But if you do change something, remember its default setting. That way, if something goes haywire, you can change it back later.
