I’m Jon, a home networking expert. I log into my router frequently, and I put together this guide to help you access your Motorola unit.
So, let’s get started.
What You Need Before Accessing Motorola Router
Before accessing your Motorola router, you must verify a few essential items first.
Follow the two simple steps below before you attempt to access your router.
Internet Connection
First, you will need to verify that your Motorola router has an Internet connection. Check its LED lights– if the WAN or Internet lights are lit up and aren’t blinking, it is connected.
Alternatively, you can connect any device to its network and open a webpage. If the webpage load, the router has an Internet connection.
If it is not connected to the Internet, troubleshoot it. Check its cables, then restart the router and the modem. If you still can’t get it to connect, contact your ISP for technical support.
Connection to Your Network
After establishing an Internet connection, connect your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) to the Motorola router’s network.
You can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet. If you can, use Ethernet since its connection is more stable. If you have to use Wi-Fi, just ensure you stay within the router’s range.
Steps to Access Your Motorola Router From Web Browser
After ensuring your Motorola router is connected to the Internet and your device is on its network, continue on to access its admin panel.
Follow the below steps to access your Motorola router.
#1 Open your browser and open the network configuration page
Start by opening your web browser of choice. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and less popular browsers should all work. But, if you have any issues, try a different browser.
In the browser’s URL bar, type the router’s IP address 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.0.1 (depending on the model and router home network setup) and hit enter or return. A page will then load, asking for the login credentials. [1]
If entering the IP address does not load the login page, your router’s IP address may be different. If that is the case, you can find the router’s IP address on macOS and Windows by following these steps:
- On Windows: Open the Command Prompt and type “IPCONFIG,” then press Enter. The router’s IP address will be next to “Default Gateway.”
- On macOS: Open System Preferences and click on Network. Then select Advanced from the drop-down menu and click the “TCP/IP” tab. The router’s IP address will be next to “Router.”
#2 Log in with your credentials
Once you enter the correct IP address into your browser’s URL bar, you will be asked to enter the username and password. Use the below credentials to log in:
- Username: admin
- Password: motorola
But, if you changed the password in the past, you will need to use your custom password instead. If you forgot your password, you will need to reset your Motorola router to access it. However, this will delete all of your custom network settings, including the SSID (network name) and Wi-Fi password.
Find the recessed reset button on the rear or bottom of the Motorola router and hold it for 10 seconds or until the lights turn off.
After a successful reset, the password will default to “motorola.”
#3 Access your administration page
Once you enter the correct login credentials, your Motorola router’s admin panel will open. Within the admin panel, you will see various settings you can adjust.
Accessing Motorola Router From the App
Besides accessing your Motorola router through your web browser, you can also access it from the motosync app.[2] The motosync app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
To access your Motorola router with the motosync app, download the app, create an account, and follow the on-screen steps to add your router to the account. It will ask you several things, including scanning your router’s barcode.
You can use the app to toggle various network settings. However, you can’t adjust as many as you can on the admin panel. Plus, the app is not compatible with all Motorola routers, only the model MH7601 router.
What You Can Configure in Your Motorola Router Settings
You can change several settings in the Motorola router’s admin panel. Here are the most common ones people should change.
Wi-Fi Password
If you haven’t changed your Wi-Fi password to your Motorola router since you bought it, there is a slight chance someone untrustworthy can gain access. Anyone that visits your home could get the default Wi-Fi password from the router’s label and use it to steal your personal data or harm your network.
When you make a new password, it’s a good idea to make it a memorable passphrase. Make it a combination of unrelated words with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Don’t use easy-to-guess passwords like “password,” your address, your last name, the dog’s name, etc.
After you update your Wi-Fi password, change the router’s admin panel password while you’re at it. This will prevent unwanted individuals from accessing your network settings.
Additional Settings
Besides the Wi-Fi and admin panel passwords, we recommend adjusting a few more settings while you’re in your Motorola router’s admin panel:
- SSID (network name): The Service Set Identifier (SSID) is what you and guests will see as your network’s name. You can change it to something more recognizable for easier identification. You can also hide it from wireless devices entirely.
- Automatic updates: Periodically, Motorola will push firmware updates the improve performance and security. We suggest turning automatic updates on to protect against malware and viruses while getting the best possible performance.
- Guest network: You can create a guest network to limit your guests from full access to your personal network.
- WPA3 encryption: Most new routers from Motorola support WPA3, which improves device encryption. However, most devices made before 2020 do not.
FAQs for Motorola Router Login Page
Here are the top questions we get about accessing Motorola routers.
How do I reset my Motorola Router?
To reset your Motorola router, push its reset button (on its back) for 10 seconds. Then wait for it to reconnect. [2]
Once the reset is complete, you can use the default login credentials to access it. However, all of your custom network configurations will be deleted. So only use this as a last resort.
What is the best modem and router?
Motorola is one of the top router and modem brands available.
However, the best modem and router depends on the home and your IPS. Your Internet speed, number of devices, home size, Internet usage, and budget all play a role in determining what’s ideal.
To determine which are best for your family, check out our best router and best modem guides.
What happens if I get stuck on the login page?
Try a different browser if you get stuck on your Motorola router’s login page. If that doesn’t work, attempt to log in with a different device.
If you used the motosync app to set up or log into your router before, check the app. You might still be logged in.
If you can’t log in because you changed the password and forgot it, you will need to reset the router. Follow the steps we provided earlier to do so.
Final Thoughts
You can easily access your Motorola router by typing 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.0.1 into your web browser to load the login page. Next, use “admin” as the username and “motorola” as the password.
