I’m Jon, a home networking expert. I frequently access my router and made this guide to help you get into your Orbi router.
So, let’s get started.
What You Need Before Accessing Orbi Router
Before accessing your Orbi router, you must verify a few important things first. Follow the below steps before you attempt to access it.
Internet Connection
First, ensure your Orbi router has a connection to the Internet. You can check for an Internet connection by looking at the router indication lights. It has a connection if the “WAN” or “Internet” LED is lit up and not flashing.
Alternatively, you can connect a device to its network and load any webpage.
If you can’t get it to connect to the Internet, troubleshoot it or contact your ISP.
Connection to Your Network
After you verify your Orbi router has an Internet connection, you will need to connect a device (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) to its network. You can connect to it via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
Ethernet generally has a more stable connection, but Wi-Fi will work fine too. If you use the Wi-Fi network while accessing the router, just be sure to stay within its range.
Steps to Access Your Orbi Router From Web Browser
After you ensure your Orbi router has an Internet connection, and your device is connected to its network, it’s time to log into its admin panel.
Follow the below steps to access it.
#1 Open your browser and open the network configuration page
Open your web browser of choice (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, etc.). In its URL bar, type orbilogin.com and press enter/return. If nothing loads, try a different browser. [1]
Otherwise, a login page will load that asks you for the login credentials.
However, if that doesn’t work, you may have to type 192.168.0.1 into the URL bar instead. But, if that does not work either, your Orbi router might have a different IP address. To look it up, follow the steps below for Mac and Windows devices:
- Windows– Open Command Prompt and type “IPCONFIG” and press Enter. Your router’s IP address will be next to the words “Default Gateway.”
- Macs– Open System Preferences and click on Network. Select the Advanced tab from the drop-down menu, then click the TCP/IP tab. Your Orbi router’s IP address will be next to the word “Router.”
#2 Log in with your credentials
A login page will load once you enter the URL or correct IP address. On this page, you must enter the username and password you created when setting up the router.
If you forgot the password, you can reset it by clicking “Forgot Password.” Then you will need to answer a few security settings and follow the on-screen steps.
But if you don’t know the answers to the security questions, you will need to reset the router to access it. To reset it, locate the reset button on the back or bottom of the router. Then press and hold it for 10 seconds or until the lights turn off.
After resetting it, you will need to go through the router’s setup process and create your username and password (make sure you don’t forget it this time). Once you finish the setup, you can use your new username and password to log in.
#3 Access your administration page
Once you enter the correct username and password, you can access your Arris router’s admin panel. Within the admin panel, you can view and change several settings.
Accessing Orbi Router From the App
The Netgear Orbi app is an easy way to access your Orbi router remotely. You can download the Orbi app from Google Play or Apple App Store for free. You can use the app to set up your Orbi router too. [2]
To access the Orbi router with the app, download it to your smartphone or tablet. Then open it while connected to your Orbi router’s Wi-Fi network. The app will automatically find your router.
Next, follow the on-screen steps to connect your router to the app.
Once you’re successful with the login, you can access and change several of the same settings you can in the web-based admin panel.
The app provides quick access to setup, network monitoring, security features, and much more. You can even change the settings while you’re away from home.
What You Can Configure in Your Orbi Router Settings
Inside your Orbi router’s admin panel, you can change and view all settings related to your network. There is a “Basic” for the more common settings and an “Advanced” tab for more complex ones.
Basic Settings
Within the Basic Settings section of your Orbi router admin panel, you can see and change the following settings:
- Internet status– the connection quality from your ISP
- SSID– your network’s name
- Attached devices– the number and names of the devices connected to its network
- Parental controls– settings to restrict certain websites and access time windows
- Guest network– configure a separate network for visitors
- Change Wi-Fi password
Advanced Settings
Next to the Basic tab, you can also access the Advanced Settings. However, I only recommend changing these if you know what you are doing or you’re having network issues.
If you do change something, remember the original settings. That way, you can change it back if something goes wrong.
Here are the settings you can view and change in the Advanced tab:
- Firmware updates
- Setup wizard
- Security
- Router status
- Logs
- Backup settings
- And more
Most of these settings you will likely never need to change. However, adjusting certain ones could help you optimize your network.
