The Best AT&T Deals in August 2022

Like any internet provider, AT&T is constantly changing its deals. But at the time of writing, August 2022, we can tell you that the best deals from them are as follows:

  • $150 or $200 reward cards when you switch to AT&T Fiber from your current provider
  • Some of the most competitive Fiber plans in the US with no minimum term or extra fees [1]
  • Extra AT&T Wireless cell phone deals for students, teachers, veterans, and seniors

AT&T Deals for Multiple Products

AT&T offers extra deals if you take up more than one of their services, and they come in the form of ‘bundles’ [2].

They claim that you can get bundles on their internet and DirecTV plans. But upon closer inspection, we found that these bundles are literally the same price as if you buy them both together. There’s no money to be saved there!

In fact, the only way you can save money with multiple AT&T products is through bundling their Wireless cell phone plans and their Fiber internet plans together. Those deals look like this:

  • Get a $300 reward card for signing up for AT&T Fiber if you’re already a Wireless customer
  • Get 25% off Wireless plans if you’re already an AT&T Fiber customer

Top Tips for Getting the Best AT&T Deal

Don’t worry, these aren’t the only ways to save money as an AT&T customer. We’ve done our homework to find every possible way to save cash. Here are our top tips for saving extra money.

#1 Don’t pay for setting up your internet

If you decide to have an AT&T engineer come to your home to set up your internet for you, you might have to pay a fee as high as $99. In our eyes, it’s not worth it.

If you have the right infrastructure in your home already, you can waive this fee by setting up the internet yourself [3]. AT&T will simply send your router out to you. All you need to do is plug it in and activate it, and they’ll provide instructions on how to do that.

#2 Get paid to switch

As we mentioned before, the only actual internet deal from AT&T is a payout from them when you move from another internet provider. If you opt for the AT&T Fiber 300, 500 or 1 Gig plans, you’ll get a $150 reward card. For 2 Gig and 5 Gig, it’s $200 [4].

On top of that, AT&T will actually pay any cancellation fees that you may incur from your old contract. Of course, this is subject to terms and conditions but it’s well worth taking a look at.

#3 Check if you know any employees or partners

AT&T has partnered with a number of companies to provide discounts on their Wireless plans. If you work for any of those companies, or for AT&T personally, you can get a further $10 off your monthly cell phone payments per month.

To find out whether your company is part of the scheme, head over to this link.

It’s not possible to get this deal as an internet customer right now unfortunately.

#4 Free internet for low income households

If you live in a low income household, we recommend finding out if you can qualify for the federal Affordable Connectivity Program. You can get free or heavily reduced internet up to 100 Mbps per month at AT&T if you meet the income criteria.

Of course, 100 Mbps isn’t super fast but it should be enough for as many as 4 or 5 people living together. That depends on what you want to do with your internet, but to contextualize, 100 Mbps will be enough for four simultaneous Netflix Ultra HD streams.

Just head over to this page and enter some details to find out if this program will be able to benefit you.

#5 Wait for the right deal

If you’re not in a rush to find a new internet deal, you could simply wait and see what AT&T has to offer in the future. They do offer deals from time to time, so it might be worth sitting back and keeping an eye on that.

Every now and then, check out their deals page, and you may well find that some kind of offer pops up in the future. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell in advance whether this is going to be the case.

AT&T Fiber Perks Explained

As we’ve seen so far, there aren’t a lot of internet deals at AT&T. But the reason for that is because they’ve recently rolled out their Fiber internet deals, which represent great value right off the bat.

Let us explain. Previously, every AT&T coverage area was powered by the old type of internet, simply called AT&T Internet. But now, AT&T is rolling out fiber broadband across its map.

Fiber is a heck of a lot faster and offers much better value for money. However, it can take a long time to get the infrastructure in place. So, only around a third of AT&T customers are able to get it right now.

To find out if you’re in that third, just go over to the AT&T website and input your address. This will reveal the internet plans available to you.

Check below for a look at the current AT&T Fiber plan prices and you’ll see what we mean about the value:

Plan nameSpeedPrice per month
AT&T Fiber 300300 Mbps$55
AT&T Fiber 500500 Mbps$65
AT&T Fiber 1 Gig1000 Mbps$80
AT&T Fiber 2 Gig2000 Mbps$110
AT&T Fiber 5 Gig5000 Mbps$180

On top of those great prices, here are the reasons we feel that AT&T Fiber is a deal in its own right.

  • No minimum contract term: You can sign up for AT&T Fiber for as little as one month, unlike a lot of internet plans where you’ll need to commit to a year, or even two!
  • Free Hot Spot: AT&T customers can log into public Wi-Fi in a number of locations across the US free of charge.
  • No joining fee: There’s no initial charge at the point of signing up for an AT&T Fiber plan.
  • No equipment hire fee: You also won’t need to pay to rent the router that comes with your plan. That’ll save you a little extra money.
  • Free network security: All AT&T Fiber plans are protected by ActiveArmor. This will keep your home network safe from any outside threats.

The only time that you might have to pay an additional fee on the prices listed in the table above (other than taxes) is if you a) forget to return your equipment or b) live in the states of Texas, Ohio or Nevada.

Those three states charge a ‘Monthly State Recovery Cost’, so make sure you look into what that would be as you budget for your new Fiber plan.

What if I can’t get Fiber?

To contextualize the value of these Fiber plans, we need to look at the alternative: AT&T Internet. Check below for a table of a selection of the AT&T Internet plans.

AT&T Internet PlanPrice
768 Kbps$55
10 Mbps$55
25 Mbps$55
50 Mbps $55
75 Mbps$55
100 Mbps$55

As you’ve probably noticed, the price for each of these plans is exactly the same price. That’s because AT&T will simply put you on the faster plan you can get in your area. Generally, the more rural your area is, the slower the internet speed will be.

And the other bad news for those who can’t get Fiber is that each of these plans is part of a 24 month contract. And at the 12 month mark, the prices increase by another $15 per month.

Ouch.

AT&T’s Wireless Deals in 2022 Explained

If you’re a specific demographic, you might be able to save extra money as an AT&T customer. There aren’t any internet deals specific for students, veterans etc. right now but you can save money on their Wireless plans if you fit into the following categories:

Deals for Teachers

The best demographic to be as a potential AT&T customer right now is a teacher. That’s because there are a couple of Wireless deals you can take advantage of. They are as follows:

  • iPhone 13 Mini for $0 when you trade in an eligible device with a new Wireless plan
  • 25% off select Wireless Unlimited plans

Deals for Veterans and Military Personnel

AT&T offers service personnel discounts for their Wireless plans. And, they extend those discounts to any family members of active military personnel or veterans.

The deal for these people at the moment is 25% off selected Wireless Unlimited plans.

Deals for Seniors

If you’re over the age of 55, AT&T has a specific Wireless deal for you. It’s called the AT&T Unlimited 55+ plan and it’s a great way to save on your monthly cell phone payments.

Strangely, however, this deal is only available to those legally residing in the state of Florida [5]. We’re not 100% sure why this is the case, but hopefully they roll it out to other states soon.

Check out more ways to save money as a senior with AT&T here.

Deals for Existing Customers

As mentioned before, it’s possible to get extra cash back when you sign up for a Fiber plan as a Wireless customer and vice versa.

Fiber customers can save 25% on Wireless plans and Wireless customers can get a $300 reward card when signing up for a Fiber plan. Just note that these deals cannot be used in conjunction with any of the other offers listed above.

Deals for Students

Right now, there are no specific deals for students at AT&T. That feels like a shame considering that students really need to save money more than most other people.

However, AT&T does run student deals from time to time, so keep an eye out on their website to see if they have anything to offer in the future. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell in advance if and when these deals are going to land.

But, all hope is not lost. There are a few ways that you can save money with AT&T as a student, and you can check them out here.

AT&T DirecTV Deals (Previously U-verse)

Another product that AT&T offers is television. As we mentioned before, they do offer a ‘bundle’ for their internet and TV packages but you don’t actually save any money by doing this.

Nonetheless, if you are in the market for TV, there are some pretty cool packages to choose from. AT&T offers both streaming and satellite packages, but streaming is less expensive and time consuming to set up.

And right now, you can get $20 off your monthly payments for the first two months if you order online.

You can opt for any of the following depending on your personal preference: [6]

  • Entertainment: essential sports, news and more for $69.99 per month
  • Choice: Entertainment plus NBA, MLB, college networks etc. for $89.99 per month
  • Ultimate: Choice plus movies through STARZ Encore for $104.99 per month
  • Premier: Everything you could possibly want for $149.99 per month

One way to save money with DirecTV is to buy your own streaming device. AT&T will try to sell you their hardware but it’s pretty expensive at $120 [7]. Instead, you can opt for a Google Chromecast for around $30.

AT&T Services Return Policy

All AT&T customers are entitled to cancel their internet plans within 14 days of making the purchase without having to incur a cancellation fee [8]. So if you feel like you made the wrong call, there’s a couple of weeks’ worth of peace of mind there.

After this point, there will be a pro rate fee to cancel any AT&T Internet plans depending on how long you have left in your contract.

Of course, this is not the case with AT&T Fiber as there are no minimum contracts here. You can cancel at any time.

AT&T Deals FAQ

There’s a lot to get your head around when it comes to AT&T deals, so you may still have some questions. We hope you find the answers to them below.

How do I qualify for the military, student, teacher deals etc.?

Proving your status as a veteran, student, senior etc. with AT&T is really easy. All you have to do is provide the necessary ID when requested.

So, just go ahead and make a purchase with the discount, and be prepared for AT&T to reach out to you for the required document.

When will these deals expire?

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to say in advance when an AT&T deal is coming to an end. They can cancel deals and introduce new deals at any time, so if you like the sound of one of them, it could be best to act fast.

If there aren’t any deals you want right now and you’re not in a rush, you could wait to see what becomes available in the future.

How much do AT&T’s internet plans currently cost?

For the most part, AT&T’s internet plan pricing is easy to understand. For all their non-fiber internet plans, the price is $55 no matter which speed you get. AT&T will simply provide you with the fastest speed available.

Be aware that that price will rise at the 12 month point in your contract by $15. So for your second year, you’ll be paying $70.

For Fiber, the price differs depending on the speed you select. It starts at $55 per month

Wrapping Up on AT&T’s 2022 Deals and Promotions

Navigating AT&T’s internet deals is pretty straightforward as quite simply, there aren’t many. In fact, the only ‘deal’ so to speak for AT&T Fiber is the $150 or $200 reward card when you sign up.

But the reason for that is that AT&T Fiber is already a great deal in itself. AT&T offers some of the most competitive fiber internet prices in the world. Plus, there are loads of great perks such as free internet security and no minimum contract.

Customers will get more deal variety with AT&T Wireless, the cell phone brand. Here, there are all sorts of deals depending on who you are (a teacher, a student, a veteran etc.)

Other deals worth noting are the bundles. If you are considering taking up both Wireless and Fiber, you can either save a lot of money per month or get a big reward card for it.
