AT&T has been rolling out some immense speeds with their fiber plans, and the second-fastest of them is AT&T Fiber 2 Gig.
With 2000 Mbps at your disposal, you’d be able to provide sufficient internet to a whole office of heavy usage users. For that reason, we only recommend this kind of speed to professional users. Anyone looking for a home plan will be better off saving some money at a lower speed.
But if you are looking to supply internet to an office or a public space, AT&T Fiber 2 Gig could be just the ticket. It offers good value and some nice perks. We’d know, because we’ve been finding out everything you could possibly want to find out about it!
So, allow us to share that with you.

AT&T Fiber 2 Gig Price & Overview
Early in 2022, AT&T announced their fastest ever fiber internet speeds, 2 Gig, and 5 Gig. Now, there are 5 different speeds to choose from, the others being 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps and 1 Gig.
The 2000 Mbps speed cap of the AT&T Fiber 2 Gig plan applies to both the download and the upload speed, so sharing files and making video calls are particularly achievable on this plan.
To acquire this kind of speed with AT&T, you’ll need to be paying $110 per month. It might sound like a lot of money, but when you consider the amount of speed you’re getting for the price, it’s actually pretty good. Make sure you stay tuned for more breakdowns of the cost later.
Because it’s so new, it’s only available in a small percentage of the US right now. So if you are interested, we recommend checking out the AT&T site to see if it’s available before doing much more reading on it.
2000 Mbps is immensely fast, so read on to find out the kind of things you’d be able to do with it and find out if it’s right for you.
Who Should Buy This Plan?
Generally, anything more than 1 Gig is going to be better suited for commercial use. But 2 Gig would be a fantastic option if you’re looking to connect up 15 or more users at the same time.
So as a public hotspot or in an office environment, it would be pretty awesome. A lot of people would have to do a lot of downloading or streaming to get near the overall bandwidth of this speed!
This plan would be particularly useful for those looking to make video calls or share files because of the huge upload speed available here, which is also 2000 Mbps.
2000 Mbps Capabilities
A download and upload speed of 2000 Mbps is immensely fast. Only a tiny percentage of people across the world are able to access this kind of speed right now!
To show you exactly how fast, we’ve been making some calculations to test the capabilities of it. Just bear in mind as you read the numbers below that the real world figures could be a little less.
For example, if you’re far away from the router or if you have other devices connected that are running background processes, you’re going to get lower speeds. But even with that going on, 2000 Mbps should be able to handle many users’ connections.
In the workplace
2 Gig is definitely best suited to the workplace. A whole team of people could easily make HD video calls with this speed.
Zoom, for example, requires an upload speed of 3.8 Mbps for its highest quality call setting [1]. Because the upload speed is the same as the download speed cap with the AT&T Fiber 2 Gig plan, you could technically have 526 simultaneous HD calls at this speed!
Remote document collaboration on a video call requires even more upload power. But it’s still not going to be a problem even hundreds of times over at 2000 Mbps. Microsoft Teams requires 4 Mbps for its ‘Best Performance’ mode [2], meaning 500 people could work on projects at the same time here.
And what about sharing files? Downloading and uploading would be brilliantly fast too. Even enormous files could be moved around in the blink of an eye.
Downloading a large file program file such as Adobe After Effects CS6 would be rapid. All 997 MB of it would be ready to install in half a second!
At home
If you do decide to take up this plan at home, you’ll probably never max out the bandwidth even if you live with a lot of people.
Streaming, for example, would be a walk in the past. Even the highest Netflix quality, Ultra HD, requires a bandwidth of 25 Mbps [3]. So at 2000 Mbps, you’d be able to stream 80 4K movies at the same time!
Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC, for example, is one of the largest game files out there at 150 GB. But with a download speed of 2000 Mbps, it would be good to go in as little as 10 minutes and 44 seconds.
In terms of actually playing the games, you should have no trouble. Even the most demanding gaming sessions will never need an upload speed of more than 25 Mbps [4]. So, technically 80 gamers could share this network.
Where Can I Get AT&T 2 Gig?
At this stage in time, AT&T 2 Gig isn’t available in that many locations. Of course, AT&T are putting their best efforts into expanding into more territory but it’s still early days right now.
AT&T’s overall fiber plan covers various towns and cities in 21 states [5]. In the west, it’s just California and a little bit of Nevada. In the east and center, Florida, Texas and a few other states are covered but the coverage doesn’t extend as far as New York.

Be aware, however, that of the AT&T Fiber map as a whole, only one third is able to get the 2 Gig speed. The rest will be limited to the 300, 500 and 1 Gig options.
AT&T 2 Gig Contract
Now that we know how fast 2000 Mbps is and we’ve found out where it’s available, let’s find out what we have to do to get it with AT&T.
AT&T 2 Gig pricing
The AT&T 2 Gig plan will cost users $110 month plus taxes. Of course, over $100 a month just to get online sounds like a lot at first glance. But for this immense amount of speed, that’s not bad at all!
$110 is, of course, quite a lot of money to be spending every month on home internet. And that’s exactly why we only tend to recommend it to those looking to supply broadband in a commercial setting. The chances are that you won’t be getting $110’s worth of usage at home.
Later on, we’ll compare that price to similar plans from other providers to give you a sense of how much value you’re getting from AT&T.
AT&T 2 Gig contract length
Here’s a cool thing that helps to justify the price tag: there is no minimum contract length for the plan. There’s no need to sign up for six, 12 or 24 months. You can sign up for as little as one month if you so wish.
This is good news for those who are unsure if 2000 Mbps is going to be enough or too much for them, as it’s easy to change to a different speed whenever you need to.
AT&T 2 Gig additional fees
The only fee you may need to pay on top of the monthly subscription is for setup. This could be up to $99 depending on your home situation (whether you already have the correct wiring etc.).
There are no rental fees for equipment on AT&T Fiber 2 Gig. Considering the power of the router and the additional things you get with the plan (more on that shortly), we’re big fans of this call from AT&T.
The $110 starts to look a bit less expensive with this in mind.
On top of this, AT&T will help you make the switch. They’ll give you a $200 gift card for ending your plan with another provider and moving over to AT&T Fiber 2 Gig. And, they’ll pay any cancellation fees you might incur, so there’s no need to worry about that either.
AT&T 2 Gig extra terms
Good news! There’s absolutely no data cap on this plan. So, you can browse, stream, download and more to your heart’s content without ever having to worry about how much data you’re using.
In fact, there aren’t really any other terms and conditions that need to be considered. Of course, we still recommend reading the small print before you sign up for the plan. But from our research, there’s nothing untowards there.
AT&T Fiber 2 Gig: Not Just Internet!
If you commit to the AT&T Fiber 2 Gig plan, you’ll be getting a few extra perks to help sweeten the deal. And they’re pretty cool. Here’s an overview of the additional things you’ll get with this plan.
AT&T Gateway
The actual router you get isn’t just a router. It’s also a modem, so you won’t need to buy any additional hardware with the plan.
It’s powerful, too. It kind of has to be able to support 2000 Mbps! You won’t be able to reach that speed over Wi-Fi with a single device, but Gateway will allow enough devices to connect at speeds fast enough to total 2000 Mbps.
You will be able to reach 2000 Mbps with a wired connection by using an Ethernet cable. This also comes in the box.
If you want a better shot at getting close to 2000 Mbps with a single device over Wi-Fi, you might want to think about buying a faster router. We’ve put together a few recommendations for the best Wi-Fi 6 routers. There’s a lot of quick routers in there!
AT&T Hot Spot
Even without mobile data, you’ll be able to stay connected outside of the house in a lot of locations with AT&T. Their nationwide cloud Wi-Fi hotspot, called Hot Spot, is free to all customers.
AT&T Smart Home Manager
Control all your network settings with your smartphone thanks to the Smart Home Manager app from AT&T. It’s a nice piece of software, and it beats having to log into your computer to open up the network configuration page to make any changes to your setup.
The app is available to download on most mobile devices as you’ll find it in both the Play Store and the App Store, free of charge.
AT&T ActiveArmor
You’ll be protected from any external threats with the AT&T Fiber plans thanks to their antivirus technology called ActiveArmor. It’s updated regularly and this means it’s well equipped to deal with anything that could compromise your network.
This is a particularly useful tool with the AT&T Fiber 2 Gig plan as we imagine that most owners of this plan will be sharing it with a lot of other people. The more connected devices, the higher the potential threat, and that’s why having network security is important.
AT&T Fiber 2 Gig With AT&T Wireless
Want to save some more cash with your new fiber plan? Consider making the switch to AT&T Wireless, their cell phone provider brand. There are lots of plans to choose from, and you can get paid for taking up both.
Some providers, such as Verizon Fios, will reduce the monthly payments for their fiber for their cell phone customers. AT&T does things differently by offering a one-time payment.
Wireless customers can get a $300 reward card when signing up for AT&T Fiber [6]. And on the other side, you’ll get $250 in bill credits if you’re already an AT&T Fiber customer and want to convert to Wireless. Not bad!
AT&T Fiber vs AT&T Internet
If you’ve tried to sign up for AT&T Fiber on their website but have only been presented with AT&T Internet, you’re probably out of luck for fiber right now. The areas AT&T covers that they haven’t rolled out fiber to yet have to stick with regular wireless broadband.
And unfortunately, these plans don’t offer anywhere near as good value. The amount you pay and the speed you get varies from area to area, but it will never be as good value as fiber.
One plan, for example, is called AT&T Internet 75. It’s available in a lot of locations throughout California, and it provides 75 Mbps of internet. However, it costs $55 per month which is the same as the AT&T Fiber 300 plan. Plus, you have to commit to 12 whole months!
AT&T Fiber 2 Gig vs Other AT&T Fiber Plans
2 Gig is far from the only option when it comes to selecting your AT&T Fiber plan. You can also save money by opting for a lower speed cap such as 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps or 1 Gig. Or, if you’re lucky to be in particular areas, you can go as high as 5 Gig!
Check out the table below for a breakdown of the prices of those other speeds and who we feel that they’re best suited for.
Each of these plans has the same perks and terms and conditions as the 2 Gig one we’ve been discussing today. The only actual difference is that the first two, 300 and 500, come with a $150 gift card whereas everything 1 Gig+ provides $200.

AT&T Fiber 2 Gig vs Other Provider Plans
AT&T Fiber is a fantastic plan, but it’s not the only way to get 2 Gbps internet out there! More and more companies have recently started rolling out this new superfast speed and now, there are a lot of different options available.
This table shows a handful of those companies, but bear in mind that there are a few more out there than these.

So, we can see that the prices between the companies are pretty similar overall, with none being any more than $10 more or less expensive than the AT&T offering. This also shows that the AT&T pricing is pretty much the direct average.
It’s not quite as black and white as the numbers in the table, however, as each of the competitor plans has their own perks and terms. For example, the Verizon Fios plan comes with Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ free for 12 months and you get 2TB of cloud storage.
Overall, however, we feel that the AT&T Fiber 2 Gig plan actually has the best perks.
Nonetheless, the majority of people won’t really get much freedom of choice. Yet. Right now, there isn’t a lot of crossover between the areas each company provides fiber too. That should change in the future though!
Last Thoughts on AT&T Fiber 2 Gig
We think that AT&T’s Fiber 2 Gig plan is easily one of the best ways to get 2000 Mbps in the US, if not the best way overall. It’s not directly the cheapest, but it does come with some awesome perks that aren’t quite beaten by any of the competition.
You may be lucky enough to be living in an area where AT&T Fiber 2 Gig is available already. If not, then we hope it’s with you soon!
Just remember that if you’re looking to provide internet for your family at home, you could be better off with the 1 Gig or even the 300 or 500 plans. It would certainly save you some cash.
