You can access Cox’s internet, TV, home security, voice, and business services in many cities spread throughout 19 states.
I want to find the best home internet plan. The first step to determining whether Cox meets my criteria is where the services are available.
Here’s what I’ll cover in this guide:
- Where you can get Cox services
- Areas that support fiber optic internet
- Cable internet availability
- TV service availability
- Mobile availability
- ZIP codes and cities they support
- Business service availability
Keep reading, and you’ll find out more.
Where Can I Get Cox Services?
You can get Cox’s home security, internet, TV, and landline services in 624 areas spread throughout the following 19 states:
Arkansas | Arizona | California | Connecticut |
Florida | Georgia | Iowa | Idaho |
Kansas | Louisiana | Massachusetts | Missouri |
North Carolina | Nebraska | Nevada | Ohio |
Oklahoma | Rhode Island | Virginia |
States that Cox supports.
Before getting Cox, ensure you current cities and states they support on their service availability page.
Where Is Cox Fiber Optic Internet Available?
Cox’s fiber optic internet is available within 6.52% of Cox’s coverage footprint and in these states [1]:
Idaho | California | Arizona | Nevada |
Oklahoma | Kansas | Nebraska | Arkansas |
Louisiana | Florida | Virginia |
Cox residential fiber internet availability.
Cox Communications doesn’t have a map specifying where fiber internet is available.
If you’re interested in getting Cox fiber, follow the steps I mentioned to determine whether they offer your city service.
Upon landing on Cox’s city-specific landing pages, you’ll find text like this:
To get this result, I went to the Cox service area page, selected a state, a city, and then their internet service.
From there, they’ll want to try to sell you fiber internet. So you don’t have to search for it.
If you’re a business, you can use this same sequence of pages to find whether Cox offers fiber business or dedicated internet in your city.
Cox Cable Internet Availability
Cox cable residential internet is available in the following states:
Arkansas | Arizona | California | Connecticut |
Florida | Georgia | Iowa | Idaho |
Kansas | Louisiana | Massachusetts | Missouri |
North Carolina | Nebraska | Nevada | Ohio |
Oklahoma | Rhode Island | Virginia |
Cox home internet availability.
Ensure you check whether Cox’s home internet services are available in your city before getting a plan.
Use the link I mentioned under the section ‘Where Can I Get Cox Services?’.
Cox Internet Availability Map
Here’s a map of states where Cox cable internet is available:
But what happens when you break the map down?
Let’s compare it to the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) broadband map:
The FCC last updated their map in June 2021.
Where did Cox’s coverage go?
If you look closely at the red dots, that’s where you can get Cox cable internet.
The FCC suggests-in June of last year-that fiber accounts for 6% of Cox’s overall internet technology footprint [2].
And broadband cable makes up for 98.87%?

Cox cable internet plans compared.
Here’s what you’ll get with each Cox home internet plan:
- Over 4 million Wi-Fi hotspots
- Their rentable Panoramic Wi-Fi router-modem can reduce lag in video games
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- Free security suite
Every internet plan has a 1.25 terabyte (TB) data cap. Data you use after this cap will incur $10 fees per every 50 gigabytes (GB) block of data Cox adds to your account.
To remove this cap entirely, you’ll need to pay an extra $50 monthly for their unlimited data add-on. This data cap won’t affect your online experience. So long as you don’t use 4K cloud gaming or video streaming.
Then it’ll only take around 200 hours to burn through your data cap [3].
Their prepaid and low-income internet services include a free Cox modem rental. That saves you at least $13 monthly.
The lag-reducing feature in their network gateway is the Elite Gamer feature. It reroutes the servers connected to your computer to place them closer to the game you’re playing. Think of it like the software, ExitLag.
I have a vendetta against their security suite since McAfee powers it. It requires at least 1.3 GB of hard drive space [4]. And isn’t necessary if you have common sense regarding online security.
Windows Defender is an adequate anti-virus. Or, if you have a Mac, use their firewall. And don’t visit “no-no” sites.
It’s nice that Cox offers a free anti-virus suite, but not the most significant selling point.
They don’t often offer deals on their internet services. But we’ll cover any Cox discounts whenever they surface.

Cox Contour cable television plans compared.
Every Cox Contour television plan (except Streaming Only) will give you the following:
- Free Standard DVR service for 1 year
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- Contract-free
- 1 free TV box and remote
- Cox TV app
- 50 ad-free music channels
- Many channel package add-ons to choose
Their Streaming Only package is a TV streaming box you can get if you have an internet-only plan. It comes with a bunch of pre-loaded streaming apps like Netflix.
It’s not the most helpful plan if you already have a Roku TV box. Or would rather pay money up-front for a 4K streaming box like an NVIDIA SHIELD TV.
TV Starter only includes local channels. Preferred TV has local and cable channels.
Preferred TV Plus comes with every premium channel subscription at a slightly discounted rate. Ultimate TV comes with every TV channel package except their international and Spanish channels.
I don’t know you:
So I can’t recommend a specific package.
The TV plan you choose depends on your home’s needs. If you want every sport and premium channel package, pick Ultimate TV.
If your home only requires sports channels, get Starter TV and buy sports packages that align with your sports-consuming schedule.
Cox Contour TV doesn’t currently offer any discounts. You’ll need to explore our Cox deals page to see whether my statement changes.
Cox Mobile Availability
Cox Mobile is available in every state, but not outlying U.S. territories like Guam or Puerto Rico.
They use Verizon’s cell towers to deliver cellular services. Your access to 4G LTE and 5G services will vary.
Here’s a map to illustrate my point:
Here’s Hawaii’s and Alaska’s Cox Mobile coverage:
The FCC doesn’t have a map available yet that shows their accurate coverage. Since Cox uses Verizon’s network, you could use an FCC map to get another perspective on Cox’s actual 4G LTE coverage.
Keep in mind that cellular providers voluntarily provided data to the FCC to create these maps. So there’s possibly a bias.
You can use the FCC map to compare 4G LTE coverage from Cox (Verizon) versus other providers.
I couldn’t find a 5G FCC map.
What Cities Does Cox Serve?
I’m not going to cover every city Cox serves, but here are some popular cities you can access Cox’s television, home security, landline, and internet services:
City | State |
Bentonville | AR |
Phoenix | AZ |
San Diego | CA |
Santa Barbara | CA |
Baton Rouge | LA |
Omaha | NE |
Cleveland | OH |
Tulsa | OK |
Virginia Beach | VA |
Providence | RI |
Oklahoma City | OK |
Examples of some cities that have Cox’s services available.
I didn’t want to list over 600 cities. But the above are examples of cities where they have the most coverage.
When finding out cities they support, you’ll need to further break down whether they support your ZIP code. You can check Cox’s ZIP code availability by checking their service area support page.
Cox Business Availability
Cox Business internet, TV, and landline services are available in the following states:
Arkansas | Arizona | California | Connecticut |
Florida | Georgia | Iowa | Idaho |
Kansas | Louisiana | Massachusetts | Missouri |
North Carolina | Nebraska | Nevada | Ohio |
Oklahoma | Rhode Island | Virginia |
Cox business TV, internet, and landline availability.
Cox Business has support in 711 areas. Much more than the little over 600 areas you can get their consumer internet.
Cox isn’t specific about their business fiber optic internet availability. They state, “you’ll have to speak with a business internet representative.” Probably so they can upsell services.
Their fiber service availability for businesses will vary by ZIP code.

Wrapping Up
Cox doesn’t have the most availability. And they made it difficult to figure out where they offer fiber optic internet. But for the most part, they’re transparent about their service availability.
The next step toward determining whether you want Cox as your home’s internet and TV provider, you’ll want to check out their plans.
