Frontier Internet Deals & Discounts (2024)

New Frontier Fiber customers get a free $100–$200 prepaid visa gift card or a free Amazon eero router. They also give you $10 off YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream (for 1 year) when bundling either service with your plan. Keep reading to learn more.

Before dedicating myself to an internet provider, I want to find every possible way to save money. Thus, I compiled every way to save money with Frontier’s internet packages.

Throughout this guide, you’ll find the following:

Keep reading. There’s much to cover.

#1 Free Router or Gift Card With Every Fiber Plan

Frontier’s Fiber 500 plan offers a $100 Visa Prepaid gift card or an Amazon eero Wi-Fi router. You’ll choose a $200 Visa prepaid gift card or an Amazon eero Wi-Fi system on their 1 Gig plan.

Which should you choose?

The Amazon eero 6 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) mesh router supports speeds up to 900 Mbps and usually costs $89 [1]. Frontier doesn’t specify the model of the “eero Wi-Fi system.” According to eero’s site, the eero 6+ supports gigabit speeds.

And retails for $139 per device.

Both are excellent routers that connect up to 75 devices simultaneously. And covers homes up to 1,500 square fees.

You may not need these features, though. Check out the routers we recommend for Frontier. Say you choose the gift card, you could save a bit of money by opting for one of our recommendations.

You also won’t need to worry about returning the Amazon eero router upon canceling your Frontier plan in the future. Then you’ll have a router to take to your next internet service provider.

To choose the router, pick the “Skip Rewards” option on their plan selection page:

If you’re not tech. savvy, you’ll like this next discount.

#2 HomeShield or My Premium Tech Pro for $0.99

New customers for these add-ons get HomeShield or My Premium Tech Pro for $0.99 a month. The discounted rate lasts 3 months.

Then you must pay $6.00 monthly for the first add-on. $5.00 a month for the second.

The first software is an antivirus and password manager. The latter offers a tech. support agent to help you optimize your computers (for speed I think), set up social media accounts, and software installation.

I thought it was a joke when I read it. But it’s real.

Pick the former software if you don’t want to try free password management software like Bitwarden. And the latter if you don’t know anyone who’s tech savvy and can help you with basic internet setup.

Or if you’re not familiar with using Google.

#3 $10 off YouTube TV Each Month for 1 Year

New Frontier customers will get $10 off a YouTube TV subscription for a year. You’ll pay $54.99 a month instead of $64.99 monthly.

YouTube TV is a live TV streaming service that I recommend if:

  • You don’t want to pay a broadcast TV or regional sports fee: saves you at least $40 monthly
  • Want unlimited cloud DVR: great for recording & storing shows you don’t want to miss
  • Live television channels: offers more than 100 channels (e.g., ABC & Food Network)
  • To avoid TV box rentals: no worrying about unreturned equipment fees

3 devices can simultaneously stream YouTube TV on their devices. And supports up to 6 accounts per household.

There’s no installation fee or contracts. And there are various add ons like 4K UHD TV1 resolution, offline recordings, and channel packages (e.g., NFL Red Zone).

Each device will need at least 3.0 Mbps of downstream bandwidth to stream YouTube TV [2]. All internet plans can accommodate these speeds.

#4 $10 off DirecTV Stream Each Month for 1 Year

Save $120 a year on DirecTV Stream when getting a Frontier Fios plan. With this discount, you’ll pay $79.99 monthly instead of $89.99.

Why choose DirecTV Stream over YouTube TV?

It supports streaming on unlimited devices at the same time. And offers more channels (from their Choice package). Thus, it’ll work best for households that’ll have more than 4 devices watching TV simultaneously.

Unlike YouTube TV, AT&T DirecTV suggests you have 8.0 Mbps of downstream bandwidth available per device.

I compare YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream’s channel lineups in a separate guide.

#5 Frontier Fios Fiber 2 Gig Perks

When purchasing the Fiber 2 package, Frontier will provide the following perks:

  • Free professional installation: worth $85
  • Free Amazon eero Wi-Fi 6E System: worth $300
  • Free My Tech Premium Pro: worth $5.00 a month
  • Free phone line: worth $10 monthly

You get more than $400 worth of freebies for their 2.0/2.0 Gbps internet plan. However, this plan’s $149.99 a month. Most households won’t need 2,000 Mbps download and upload speeds.

The only viable use cases from these speeds involve managing home media servers.

#6 $5.00 Auto Pay Discount

Get $5.00 off your monthly internet plan by enabling AutoPay. Frontier appears to show this discount on their product comparison pages.

Failing to enable this feature when getting your service will result in a $5.00 price increase.

I don’t like to consider automatic payment discount schemes a “deal.” But it can make a difference in your bill.

#7 Frontier Affordable Connectivity Program & Lifeline Discount

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) offers qualifying households a $30 monthly discount on internet services. The discount rises to $75 if you live in qualifying Tribal Lands.

How do you qualify?

Someone in your household must participate in one of the following programs [3]:

  • Women, Infants, Children (WIC)
  • School Breakfast Program (SBP)
  • Head Start
  • Medicaid
  • Food Stamps (SNAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance
  • VA Survivors or Veteran’s Pension
  • Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Tribal TANF
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance

OR your annual income must fall 200% below (or at) the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Say you’re a single-person household. To qualify, you must make $2,265 a month in 2022 [4, 5].

To see if you qualify, and to apply, visit affordableconnectivity.gov. Upon the government accepting you into the program, call 844-342-7501 to activate your discount.

There’s also the Lifeline discount. It gives you a $9.25 discount on your internet bill. $34.25 if you live in Tribal Lands.

Frontier allows you to use the ACP and Lifeline discounts together. Those in Tribal Lands will get up to $109.25 off their internet. Whereas, other households will get $39.25 off their plans.

Frontier Communications fiber and DSL internet packages compared.

* These plans already include Frontier’s $5.00 monthly AutoPay discount. They don’t account for taxes and other fees, though.

Here’s why I love Frontier’s internet plans:

  • Contract-free
  • Equal download/upload speeds
  • Free Amazon router: with fiber plans
  • They’ll buy you out of your current provider’s contract: up to $500

They’re also supposedly the best internet service provider for gaming online. Some claim they have latency ranging around 15 milliseconds [6]. That’ll potentially give an enormous advantage compared to those with 200 ms of ping.

Take this number as a grain of salt, though.

Frontier offers their fiber to the premises and DSL internet plans throughout 25 states. However, availability will vary by ZIP code.

To save money on your bill, you’ll need to understand all Frontier’s additional costs.

Frontier DSL & Fiber Internet Hidden Fees

Additional costs for Frontier’s products include:

Service/Add-onPrice
Equipment Fee (Fiber)$0
Router rental Fee (DSL)$10
Professional installation$85
Cancellation Fee$10
Unreturned equipment fee$150
Printed Bill$2.99/mo.
Activation fee (business internet)$95
My Premium Tech Pro$5.00/mo.
Home Shield Elite$6.00/mo.

Hidden costs of Frontier Internet.

Some fiber providers (like Verizon) will waive your activation fee when ordering your service online. Frontier doesn’t offer such a luxury. Unless you get the 2 Gig plan.

Otherwise, you’ll need to watch out for specials on their installation fees.

The Printed Bill refers to receiving paper bills. Opt out of this to save the whales and pay $3.00 less monthly.

Home Shield Elite and My Premium Tech Pro are add-ons that provide additional technical support, antivirus software, and help with troubleshooting software. I don’t recommend getting either.

Unless you don’t have anyone who can help you with setting up social media profiles. Yes, that’s in the product description for My Premium Tech Pro.

Frontier requires you to return leased equipment within 30 days of canceling your service. From thereon, they’ll charge up to $150 in unreturned equipment fees per device [7].

When returning your equipment, request a return receipt. This will prove you returned your equipment. It’s helpful in case Frontier accuses you of not returning it.

Despite not having an Early Termination Fee, they have a $10 Disconnect Fee. Basically a cancellation fee.

Lastly, you don’t pay for equipment rentals on their fiber optic internet plans. But you’ll pay a $10 fee to lease their routers when using Frontier’s DSL services.

Check out their TV products.

Frontier TV Plans

Frontier doesn’t offer new television customers a dedicated TV service anymore. Instead, they act as a middleman to “bundle” YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream with their internet products.

Both services require 3.0–8.0 Mbps download speeds to stream live television [8]. And smart devices or PCs. For instance, instead of having your kids watch SpongeBob on the family TV, they can do so on a laptop.

Legally. And not through Netflix.

Transitioning to these services don’t require a steep learning curb. Log in to your account, then navigate through channels almost as you would with cable television.

Here’s a video showing the basics of YouTube TV:

And one covering DirecTV Stream:

Let’s see what prices for these products would look like when bundled with Frontier Internet.

Frontier TV, Internet, & Phone Bundles

Frontier offers the following bundles:

BundlePriceChannelsInternet SpeedBest For
Frontier Fiber 500 + YouTube TV$94.98/mo.100+500/500 MbpsOverall
Fiber 500 + Phone$49.99/mo.0500/500 MbpsLandline owners

Frontier Fiber 500 + DirecTV Stream (Choice Package)$119.98/mo.105+500/500 MbpsMore channels

Frontier bundles compared.

Their voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone service seems more-so like an add-on than a bundle. You’ll tack an additional $10 monthly to your bill.

Not a bad price if you’re considering a home phone. But that doesn’t change my previous comment.

The 2 Gig plan doesn’t charge extra to add the phone service. You can’t remove it from the 2 Gig package to reduce your price, either. Home-based businesses would benefit the most in that scenario.

Otherwise, I see adding the voice service to your plan as beneficial if you can’t separate from landlines.

YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream are $10 cheaper for the first 12 months. They’re not Frontier’s products, though. AT&T and Google charge $10 less for their respective products on their sites.

Regardless, both live TV streaming services serve as viable alternatives to cable. There are no cable boxes, broadcast TV fees, or regional sports surcharges. Put these costs toward additional channel packages or add-on features.

Like 4K-quality video on YouTube TV.
