You’ll find these points throughout this guide:

Let’s get going.

Midco Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Unlimited data
  • No contracts
  • Huge variety of speeds

Cons:

  • Price increase up to 28% after the first year
  • TV plan doesn’t offer anything mind blowing

Important details:

  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • No contracts
  • Unlimited data: no data cap
  • Prices increase up to
  • Offers: click the links to learn more about each connection type

You won’t find these plans in every area throughout Midco’s supported states. For instance, you’ll have cable internet available in an area. But fixed wireless access (FWA) isn’t available there.

They don’t offer fiber in many areas. However, they claim they’re adding more fiber connectivity soon [1].

What should you choose if you can access all 3 connection types?

Go with fiber first, as it offers the highest speeds and lowest latency (lower equals better). Cable provides the second-highest speeds and is more reliable than fixed wireless access.

FWA users may experience interruptions if obstacles like trees stand between their home and the ISP’s wireless tower.

Whether you get the fiber or cable plans, consider your uses before picking your speeds. I recommend remote workers, livestreamers, and those who frequently use many home security cameras use fiber plans.

Since they have equal download and upload speeds (symmetric), they can accommodate tasks that require upload speeds without issues. Remote workers will likely need to upload large files for clients frequently.

Meanwhile:

Streamers will need high upload speeds to avoid lag and buffering while livestreaming in higher video resolutions. Most livestreamers require up to 30 Mbps (for 4K UHD) upload speeds [2]. Many of their cable plans can accommodate this.

But the symmetric plans will guarantee more reliability. Because you’ll need to consider whether someone else in your home is uploading files.

Midco Data Cap

Midco doesn’t enforce hard or soft data caps. Use as much data as you want without worrying about throttled internet speeds or data overage surcharges.

Midco Internet Hidden Fees

Midco’s hidden fees are as follows:

Add-on or EquipmentPrice *
Modem rental$6.00/mo.
Gateway rental$8.00/mo.
Installation Fee$100
Wi-Fi Extenders$20/mo.
Unreturned Equipment FeesUp to $149
Additional Outlet Fees$25 each
Midco additional fees.

A network gateway combines a modem and a router. You’ll save more money if you buy a third-party modem. So long as you intend on staying with Midco for a while. They require you to get a DOCSIS 3.1 modem.

They have a small list on their site. We also have modem recommendations.

It doesn’t matter what router you use. No matter how long you stay with Midco, buy your own router. Then you could transfer it to a different ISP later.

You’ll also need a router for fiber optic plans. So long as you want Wi-Fi.

Their fiber optic plans don’t require a modem. They use optical network terminals (ONT). They serve the same purpose, but take up more room. And require professional installation.

Midco Standard Pricing

Expect to see your bill increase to these amounts after the first 12 months:

TierPromotional Pricing *Standard Pricing *Percentage Increase
Midco Internet 250$49/mo.$64.95/mo.28%
Midco Internet 500$59/mo.$74.95/mo.23%
Midco Internet 750$69/mo.$84.95/mo.21%
Midco Gig Internet$79/mo.$99.95/mo.23%
Midco pricing after 12 months.

Midco’s fixed wireless access plans don’t experience a price hike (thankfully). And I couldn’t find information on whether their fiber plans increase in price. It appears that it doesn’t. As they’re already expensive.

Midco TV Packages, Pricing, & Features

Let’s compare Midco’s television plans:

TV PlanPrice *Number of Channels
MidcoTV 1$29/mo.78
MidcoTV 2$49/mo.96
MidcoTV 3$69/mo.135
MidcoTV 4$79/mo.182
Midco TV plans compared.

Important details:

  • Only accessible when bundling with internet
  • Record DVR through TiVo
  • Streaming outsourced to TV Everywhere

Midco has begun transitioning from its cable television services to a livestreaming TV service (Midco TV) [3]. By the time you’re reading this, they may have eliminated their cable services.

Midco has partnered with TV Everywhere. It allows you to log in to your online Midco TV account to watch most of your channel lineup through TV Everywhere’s site or apps.

Devices it’ll work with include:

  • Roku
  • Smart TV
  • Amazon Fire TV devices
  • Phones & tablets with Android & iOS
  • Nook
  • PlayStation
  • Chromecast
  • PC

Everything’s done online, which means you’ll need enough bandwidth available per device to stream your shows. But TV Everywhere and Midco were nice enough not to tell us the required bandwidth.

We could use DirecTV Stream as a benchmark in this case. They require 8.0 Mbps download speeds per device [4].

Midco TV App

The Midco TV app is another application to fill your phone with. It allows you to schedule and manage cloud DVR recordings and access TV Everywhere. The latter you could do in your browser.

There’s nothing special offered, otherwise.

Midco DVR Overview

Midco provides DVR via TiVo. It allows customers to watch video streaming apps and manage your DVR.

The latter features it includes are:

  • 600 hours of DVR storage
  • Record 6 programs simultaneously
  • On-Screen Guide helps you find
  • Costs $4.00 a month
  • Requires a minimum of 50 Mbps of downstream bandwidth
  • Pause up to 90 min. of SD live channels
    • The length customers can pause will vary with HD channels

Midco offers the most value with its DVR functionality out of everything else their TV plans offer. The one redeeming feature.

Let’s transition out of television and into business internet.

Midco Business Internet Plans, Pricing, & Features

Midco Business plans compared.

Important details:

  • No data caps
  • $8.00/mo. a modem rental
  • $12/mo. to rent a network gateway
  • Requires a 24-, 36- or 60-month contract
  • $100 installation fee
  • Fiber plans have symmetric speeds

The regular Business Internet plan uses hybrid cable-fiber connectivity. Meaning, you’ll get cable internet connectivity. They didn’t list the upload speeds on their business landing page. Take the upload speeds listed with a grain of salt.

Midco Business allows customers to pause their services for $5.00 a month. This is helpful if you’re out of the country and won’t use your service.

The fixed wireless internet plans work best for anyone who works on remote sites. It’s a better alternative than satellite internet since you’ll have unlimited data and faster speeds.

However:

You must sign a contract for 36 months for this connection type.

If you have access to fiber internet, choose it over cable. It’s a bit more expensive, but the high upload speeds make it much better for backing up files or sending them to team members and clients.

Cable internet will accommodate most tasks restaurants, bars, cafés, and clinics will have. They may want to consider fiber internet if considering offering public Wi-Fi, though. Since a large number of customers will hog your bandwidth.

Businesses that frequently back up or send files will need fiber internet. Otherwise, the low upload speeds will result in wasted time.

Midco offers many connection types, but not add-ons. No mention of static IP addresses, security suites, or other private Wi-Fi networks.

Midco Availability

Midco’s available in some cities throughout these states [5]:

  1. Kansas
  2. Minnesota
  3. North Dakota
  4. South Dakota
  5. Wisconsin

Midco Home Phone Pricing

Midco home phone is a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) home phone service with 2 plans:

  • Basic Home Phone: $9.95/mo.
    • Unlimited local calling
    • Best for local calling
  • Home Phone Package: $23/mo.
    • Unlimited domestic long-distance calling
    • 9 calling features
    • Voicemail
    • Best for calling features & international calling

These plans are only accessible when bundling them with an internet plan. They don’t list the pricing for either plan on their site. I calculated these plans by subtracting the internet plan from the bundle prices that include these products.

By the way:

The Home Phone Package includes these features:

  1. International calling: call outside the U.S.
  2. Continuous redial: call someone while receiving other calls
  3. Distinctive ringing: unique ringtones for up to 10 people
  4. Call forwarding universal: forwards calls
  5. Last call return: *69
  6. Speed call 30: program 30 of the most dialed numbers
  7. 3-way calling: talk to 2 folks simultaneously
  8. Call waiting ID: know who’s calling
  9. Caller ID w/ anonymous call rejection: screens calls

Do you only want 1 of these features? Go with the Basic Home Phone plan and add it. Midcontinent Communications doesn’t say how much it’ll cost to add each feature, though.

International calling rates are $0.07–$3.89 per minute [6]. Rates will vary by country.

Midco Bundles: TV, Phone, & Internet

Midco doesn’t offer discounts when bundling their products. But here’s what you could bundle:

Midco bundled compared.

I could only find bundles available for their television, phone, and cable internet products. They may have fiber internet bundles, but you’ll need to investigate.

Pricing will increase once month 12 passes on your plan.

Midco Internet & TV Deals

Midco offers up to 28% off its internet plans for new customers. After a year, those rates will increase to their standard pricing. They don’t otherwise offer discounts for existing customers, seniors, veterans, students, and teachers.

TV customers can use a promotion code to get a free movie rental. You’ll need to redeem your deal here.

Midco will pay up to $300 of new customers’ early termination fees with their contract buyout program. You must fill out their contract buyout form to get this deal.

Try for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). It’s a $30-a-month government subsidy for internet bills. And it’s available to anyone who participates in at least one of these programs:

  • Women, Infants, Children (WIC)
  • School Breakfast Program (SBP)
  • Head Start
  • Medicaid
  • Food Stamps (SNAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance
  • VA Survivors or Veteran’s Pension
  • Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Tribal TANF
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance

See whether you qualify by visiting affordableconnectivity.gov. If approved, call Midco’s sales department to qualify for the credit.

However:

Customers who qualify for this plan also get Midco Basic Internet for free. It’s a 100 Mbps (download speeds) plan that includes a free network gateway.

How Do I Check for Midco Internet Outages

Check for Midco internet outages by visiting Midco.com/support/account-and-billing/outages and entering your address. They’ll let you know whether there’s an outage.

Does Midco Internet Support IPV6?

Midco does not support IPV6 internet.

Conclusion

Midco offers more connection types than most providers. Though, they’re not the most affordable in their categories. For instance, T-Mobile 5G Home costs less and offers more than all Midco’s FWA products.

The unlimited data and lack of contracts make Midco appealing, though. Despite costing a bit more, you won’t have to worry about cancellation fees or data overage surcharges.

Don’t decide on a provider yet.

Keep researching. Compare Midco to other ISPs and TV providers we’ve reviewed.

Footnotes:

* The pricing you see doesn’t include any taxes or additional fees.

† And the internet speed you get may change based on how you’re connected (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and a few other factors.
