Does Verizon Offer Internet Deals for Existing Customers
Verizon offers the following significant discounts for the following groups of people:
- Low-income: must meet qualifications (home phone and internet only)
- Military personnel and veterans
- First responders
- Teachers
- Nurses
- Students: only for their Unlimited plans
- Seniors: new customers only
Each Verizon account can only have one active discount. For instance, if you already have a military discount on your account, you can’t also have a first responders discount.
The following sections will cover the discount amounts, who can qualify, and other relevant details.
First responders, nurses, teachers, and the military have the same home internet and 5G Unlimited discounts. I covered the home internet discounts at each point.
However, I compiled all the discounts for mobile plans for these groups under the section ‘Verizon Wireless Unlimited Discounts.’
Lifeline Low-income Internet
Qualifying households can get up to 100% off certain internet plans with the Verizon lifeline discount.
Upon qualifying for the discount, you’ll see prices like:
Fios Plan | * Speed (Download/upload) | ** Price (New Customer Price) | Price (w/ Lifeline Discount) |
300/300 | 300/300 Mbps | $49.99/mo. | Free |
500/500 | 500/500 Mbps | $69.99/mo. | $24.99/mo. |
Gigabit Connection | 940/800 Mbps | $89.99/mo. | $49.99/mo. |
* These speeds may not reflect what you’ll actually see. Various factors (like Wi-Fi interference) can lower your internet speed
** These prices already include automatic payments and paper-free billing discount. They don’t include other fees or state and local taxes.
New and existing Verizon customers can get the Lifeline discount if they participate in one of these programs:
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
- Tribal programs: must live in qualifying tribal lands
- Food Stamps
- Medicaid
You can find way more programs on Verizon’s Lifeline page.
These Fios plans also come with various freebies like $10 off Verizon Unlimited Wireless plans, free six months of Disney+, and a setup fee waiver.
You’ll need to fill out a Lifeline National Verifier application to apply to this program. Unless you’re in Connecticut, you can do this application online. Connecticut’s residents must apply by snail mail.
1–2 weeks later, you’ll find out whether you’re eligible. If so, contact Verizon, and they’ll apply the discount to your account.
Verizon Wi-Fi Deals and Unlimited for Veterans
Veterans and military personnel get up to $25 off of Fios home internet plans, and the same for mobile plans (must have four lines).
Tier | Price w/ Veteran Discount | Original Price |
300 Mbps | $24.99/mo. | $49.99/mo. |
500 Mbps | $44.99/mo. | $69.99/mo. |
Gigabit Connection | $64.99/mo. | $89.99/mo. |
* These aren’t the actual prices you’ll pay. You’ll also need to factor in sales tax and other fees, and these prices already include the Auto Pay discount.
Military personnel can also get $150 in ‘perks’ for the games World of Warships and World of Tanks.
In addition to those perks, you can get 25% off select accessories (when shopping online). And 10% off accessories in Verizon stores.
To prove your eligibility, you’ll need these documents:
- Active military will need at least one of these:
- DD form 4
- SCRA status report
- Pay stub
- Veterans will need one proof of service item like:
- VetRewards Card from Veterans Advantage
- DD form 213
- Veteran ID card
- Military retiree account statement
- Gold Star Families will need DD Form 214 with Terms of Separation as “Deceased”
It may take up to a couple of billing cycles for this discount to appear on your account.
Read our article on Verizon veterans and military deals for more info.
Fios Internet Deals for First Responders
The following first responders can get up to $25 off Verizon 5G cellular and Fios home internet plans:
- Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Firefighters
- *Law enforcement
- Retirees
- Volunteers
- ** Next of Kin
* Federal-level personnel like the CIA and FBI aren’t eligible for this discount.
** Immediate family members of first responders who passed away in the line of duty can also qualify for these discounts.
Here are the Verizon Wi-Fi deals for first responders:
Fios Plan | * Regular Price | Price After First Responder Discount | Savings |
300/300 | $49.99/mo. | $24.99/mo. | 66% |
500/500 | $69.99/mo. | $44.99/mo. | 43% |
Fios Gigabit | $89.99/mo. | $64.99/mo. | 32% |
* These prices may change at any time. They don’t include other fees or taxes. However, they do include the automatic payments discount.
First responders can also get 10% off certain accessories bought in Verizon retail stores. Or 25% off online accessories bought through your My Verizon account.
These accessories change frequently. So I don’t want to mislead anyone by posting current Verizon accessory discounts.
You’ll need to visit Verizon.com/featured/first-responders and verify your identity through a third-party website (ID.me) to apply for the discount.
To verify your eligibility, you’ll need these documents:
- Next of Kin will need a signed affidavit that’s issued by the First Responder Agency
- Retirees will need a pension pay stub
- Volunteers must provide a volunteer ID or a statement of service
- And current first responders will need a pay stub
It’ll take a while for this discount to appear on your account. At least a couple of billing cycles.
Verizon Wireless Internet Deals for Teachers
U.S. K–12 and post-secondary teachers can save up to $25 on a qualifying 5G plan by having four lines on their account. They can also get $25 in savings on Verizon Wi-Fi home internet.
Both discounts apply to new and existing customers.
Here are the savings teachers will find with Verizon home internet:
Fios Plan | * Regular Price | Price After Teacher Discount | Savings |
300/300 | $49.99/mo. | $24.99/mo. | 66% |
500/500 | $69.99/mo. | $44.99/mo. | 43% |
Fios Gigabit | $89.99/mo. | $64.99/mo. | 32% |
* These prices aren’t accurate. They can change at a moment’s notice, don’t include taxes and other fees, and include the paper-free billing discount.
Retired teachers can’t apply for this plan.
To get started with the teacher’s discount, you’ll need to visit Verizon.com/featured/teachers. They’ll redirect you to ID.me, which will verify your employment.
From thereon, they’ll push you back to Verizon’s website, where you’ll need to sign up for or into an account.
To prove you’re a teacher, you’ll need a pay stub or a teaching certificate (depending on your state).
For more info, read our article on Verizon teacher’s deals.
Verizon Home Internet Deals for Nurses
Nurses (or respiratory therapists) and their families can receive up to a $25 discount on Verizon wireless Unlimited cellular plans and Fios home internet.
The prices that you’ll find for the home Wi-Fi plans after the discount include:
Fios Plan | * Regular Price | Price After Nurse Discount | Savings |
300/300 | $49.99/mo. | $24.99/mo. | 66% |
500/500 | $69.99/mo. | $44.99/mo. | 43% |
Fios Gigabit | $89.99/mo. | $64.99/mo. | 32% |
* These prices don’t reflect what you’ll pay. You’ll also need to consider the Auto pay discount, state and local taxes, and other fees.
Only active respiratory therapists and nurses can apply for this discount. No retirees.
You’ll need to visit Verizon.com/featured/nurses to get your discount and verify your employment through ID.me.
Nurses and respiratory therapists need their pay stubs or National provider Identifier (NPI) number to verify their employment.
After verifying your information, ID.me will redirect you to the page ‘Discounts by Verizon.’ You’ll need to sign up for a new account or log in to your current one.
Verizon Unlimited Plan Discount for Students
College students can save up to $25 for having up to two lines on a qualifying Verizon Unlimited plan.
The plans that qualify (and the discounts) are as follows:
Phone Plan | Price | * Premium Network Data | Mobile Hotspot Data | After Student Discount (1 Line) |
5G Start | $35/mo. | 5 GB | NA | $25/mo. |
5G Do More | $45/mo. | 50 GB | 25 GB | $35/mo. |
5G Play More | $45/mo. | 50 GB | 25 GB | $35/mo. |
5G Get More | $55/mo. | Unlimited | 50 GB | $45/mo. |
* These prices already account for the Auto Pay discount. They don’t include state and local taxes or other fees.
You must prove you’re in a US secondary educational institution. These include graduate, undergraduate, or vocational school programs.
The student discount for Verizon also only lasts four years and requires you to act as the account owner.
In the section ‘How To Get Verizon Discounts’, I’ll cover the page you must visit to qualify for the Verizon college student discount.
For more info, read our article on Verizon student deals.
Verizon Wireless Plans for Seniors
Senior citizens on existing Verizon Unlimited plans cannot get any discounts. Only new customers aged 55 and over who live in Florida state can get up to $40 off of cell phone plans.
They also won’t find any discounts on Verizon Fios home internet. If you want to learn more about this, read our article on Verizon deals for seniors.
How To Qualify for Verizon Discounts
You’ll need to provide proof of employment, service, or that you’re a student through one of Verizon’s third-party partners.
As a student, you’ll do this through UniDAYS. You’ll need to provide your assigned school email address. Or sign in through your school’s online portal.
Those who serve (e.g., nurses) will verify their employment through ID.me. They’ll need pay stubs, certain ID cards or identification numbers, or other qualifying documents. I covered these requirements earlier.
Seniors will need to provide their address and birthdate.
Verizon automatically applies discounts and sales when signing up for participating plans or buying certain products.
How To Get Verizon Discounts
You’ll need to visit the page corresponding to the discount you qualify for to get started.
For instance, students will visit Verizon.com/featured/students.
Verizon wireless will ask you to verify your identity through their third-party partner. Who will then direct you to Verizon’s website again. You’ll sign in and sign up for the service you want.
Then you must wait a couple of months for the discount to appear on your account.
Verizon Fios Internet Deals for Existing Customers
Customers under the following categories can qualify for Fios home internet deals:
- Military
- Veterans
- Low-income households
- Gold Star family members
- First responders
- Nurses or respiratory therapists
I covered the specifics regarding each discount above. Each will come with varying perks.
Only customers in the following states can access Verizon Fios home internet [1]:
- Washington DC
- Virginia
- Rhode Island
- Pennsylvania
- Massachusetts
- Delaware
- New York
- Maryland
- New Jersey
Verizon Fios Internet Plans
Here’s a list of Verizon internet plans to consider:
Fios Plan | * Speed (Download/upload) | ** Price (New Customer Price) |
300/300 | 300/300 Mbps | $49.99/mo. |
500/500 | 500/500 Mbps | $69.99/mo. |
Fios Gigabit Connection | 940/800 Mbps | $89.99/mo. |
Fios Prepaid 100 Mbps | 100/100 Mbps | $39.99/mo. |
Fios Prepaid 300 Mbps | 300/300 Mbps | $59.99/mo. |
Prepaid Gigabit Connection | 940/800 Mbps | $79.99/mo. |
* As with any internet provider, various circumstances may lower your speed. For instance, peak usage hours or Wi-Fi interruptions could result in slower internet.
** These prices don’t include taxes, equipment charges, and other fees. They do include Verizon’s Auto Pay discount.
Existing Verizon customers can’t get the discounts new customers would get for internet. For instance, waiving the $99 setup fee if you activate online. Or the hundreds of dollars you can get off of the Stream TV Soundbar.
These plans don’t come with a free Verizon Fios router. You’ll have to rent or buy one from Verizon. $18 a month to rent and $399 to buy. Or you can buy your own.
Before you think, “why would anyone pay $399 for a router,” hear me out. It supports the latest Wi-Fi technology, 801.11ax (Wi-Fi 6E), and has guaranteed Verizon support. And you won’t need to research modems that work with Verizon.
Unless you’re in a household full of heavy internet users, you likely won’t need such a powerful modem/router combination. To save money, you’re better off buying a separate third-party router modem and router.
Next, I’ll cover discounts for Verizon’s 5G mobile services.
Verizon Wireless Unlimited Discounts
Here are the discounts that first responders, teachers, nurses, and military will see with Verizon 5G plans:
Phone Plan | * Price | Price w/ Those Who Serve Discount (1 Line) |
5G Do More | $45/mo. | $35/mo. |
5G Play More | $45/mo. | $35/mo. |
5G Get More | $55/mo. | $45/mo. |
* These prices don’t include state and local tax and other fees. They do include the Auto Pay discount.
Included freebies for each plan will depend on what category you fall under. For instance, military discount users will get free World of Warships in-game ships.
I’ll cover general freebies in the next section.
Verizon Unlimited Cell Phone Plans
Whether you need prices to compare, or don’t qualify for the above discounts, refer to this table for Verizon’s current 5G plan prices:
Phone Plan | * Price | Premium Network Data | Mobile Hotspot Data |
5G Start | $35/mo. | 5 GB | NA |
5G Do More | $45/mo. | 50 GB | 25 GB |
5G Play More | $45/mo. | 50 GB | 25 GB |
5G Get More | $55/mo. | Unlimited | 50 GB |
* These prices don’t include other fees or taxes. They do include the $5–$10 Verizon Auto Pay discount.
The hotspots make it so other devices can connect to the internet through your device. The higher-tier plan you get, the more hotspot data you’ll have.
All Verizon Unlimited plans will include:
- International texting from the U.S. to over 200 countries
- Call filter and spam blocker: even though you can use apps for these
- Verizon Up rewards: they’ll give you free stuff or discounts monthly
- Unlimited talk, data, and text when traveling in Canada or Mexico
You can access tickets for certain events before they’re on sale. And you can get Special Offers. But Verizon says they’re a “surprise.”
So the monthly Offers you’ll get will vary.
Remember that you may have to go through a credit check when you upgrade. Then you may have to pay a deposit. These are at least over $100.
You can waive these deposit fees with the following plans I’ll cover.
Verizon Prepaid Plans
If you’d rather prepay your Verizon Wireless mobile plans upfront, here are your options:
Phone Plan | * Price |
5 GB | $25–$40/mo. |
15 GB | $35–$50/mo. |
Unlimited | $50–$65/mo. |
Unlimited Plus | $60–75/mo. |
* These discounts include the $5–$10 Auto Pay discount. They don’t include taxes or other fees that might incur.
Existing Verizon customers can always use the Prepaid cellular data discounts. They also give you a way to avoid credit checks and costly deposits.
You’ll only see savings when you pay over three months of your bill upfront. For instance. Prepay 4–9 months’ worth of your bill and save $5 monthly. Or prepay over 10 months to save $10 a month.
You may not have unlimited data, but these plans will save you money if you don’t use much data. Also, if you use a lot of public Wi-Fi, you can save a lot of cellular data.
Just remember to not log into websites that have sensitive information (like banking sites). Because hackers could intercept your password and gain access to your accounts.
I also want to cover Prepaid data for other devices. Add this to your plan if you travel a lot and use various devices.
Verizon Prepaid data plans for tablets, mobile hotspots, and routers include:
Phone Plan | * Price |
5 GB | $40/mo. |
25 GB | $60/mo. |
100 GB | $80/mo. |
150 GB | $100/mo. |
* These prices don’t include taxes or other potential fees.
Adding this plan to an existing Prepaid mobile data plan can give you a $30 discount on your plan.
Phone Deals and Discounts
You can get free pre-owned cell phones when you add a new line to your account. Or new ones. You can get up to $800 as in-store credit when trading in a pre-owned phone.
Plans that you must upgrade (or add a new line) to include:
- 5G Get More
- 5G Do More
- 5G Play More
Phone availability will vary. I recommend checking Verizon.com/deals before getting a new phone to see what they have available.
For some free phones (e.g., Galaxy S22), you’ll need to add a new smartphone line and trade in certain devices. Best Buy has an enormous list of eligible phones you can trade in.
You don’t do the trade-in through Best Buy. You’ll do it through Verizon.
Anyway:
You can also trade in these phones for in-store credit. But they can’t have any battery damage. For instance, your phone can’t have a bloated battery.
For more info, read our article on Verizon Cell Phone Deals.
Other Verizon Deals
More Verizon Wireless deals you should check out include:
- Bundling mobile and internet
- Free streaming services
The following sections will cover each deal in-depth and how to qualify for them.
Verizon used to offer a Mobile + Home Rewards program for existing customers who bundled 5G and home internet plans. However, you can still save money using Fios internet and Unlimited plans on the same account.
Combine 5G Plans and Fios Home Internet
You’ll find these prices if you upgrade or sign up to a qualifying Verizon 5G plan while subscribed to Fios [2]:
Fios Tier | * Price (Without 5G) | Price (With 5G) | Savings |
300 Mbps | $24.99/mo. | $19.99/mo. | 22% |
500 Mbps | $44.99/mo. | $34.99/mo. | 25% |
1 Gig | $64.99/mo. | $49.99/mo. | 26% |
* These prices can change anytime and don’t include taxes or other fees. They also already have the Auto Pay discount.
You can only bundle the Do More, Play More, and Get More 5G plans with Fios to see this deal. So you’ll pay $45–$55 per month when combining both plans.
Streaming Service Deals
Verizon offers six months of free Disney+, ESPN+, AMC+, Hulu, and discovery+ (Add-Free) on qualifying Unlimited Wireless cellular plans [3]. That’s over $124 in savings.
Verizon Wireless won’t give you Netflix for free (a bummer), though.
You won’t get these services free on Verizon Fios plans, but if you plan on bundling home internet and 5G plans, these services offer significant value. If you’d watch any of them.
Not all Unlimited plans will offer all streaming services. For instance, the 5G mobile plan for discounts will give you AMC+. Whereas, other plans won’t.
You’ll need to shop around to see what plans will give you the streaming services you want.
As an existing Verizon customer, you’ll want to see whether you’re on any of these plans:
- 5G Start
- 5G Play More
- 5G Do More
- 5G Get More
If you have one of the above plans, you’ll want to see if you qualify for the free streaming service. Log into your My Verizon online account and navigate through these settings:
Account > Apps & add-ons > find the service you want > Tap ‘Enroll’
You’ll need to create an account with the streaming service.
FAQ: Verizon Discounts
Explore frequently asked questions about Verizon Wireless Fios deals for existing customers.
You may find information that’ll push you closer (or further away) from Verizon.
How To Get Fios New Customer Pricing
To get new Fios customer pricing, you’ll need to sign up for a Verizon Wi-Fi account online. Doing everything online also saves you from paying the $99 activation fee.
What Is the Best Verizon Fios Package Deal
The best Verizon Fios package deal is the Fios Double Play 300 Mbps Internet and Your Fios TV. It gives you over 125 channels and 300 Mbps speeds (download and upload) for $94.99 monthly. Perfect for households with over five people.
Wrapping Up
Verizon Wireless offers customers up to 100% off Fios home internet plans in various categories. And over 50% off of Unlimited Wireless plans.
But you must meet the qualifications and verify your identity, employment, etc. And once you get these deals, it may take up to a couple of months to see the discount appear on your account.
Not happy with the discounts you’ve found in this piece? You may want to consider a different internet service provider. Here are our recommendations.
