Verizon Internet & Cell Phone Deals & Plans For Seniors in 2024

Verizon Wireless offers seniors (55 and older) up to $40 in savings on their phone plans when switching to their Unlimited cell phone plan (only available in Florida). They don’t offer discounts on Fios home internet plans. However, they provide discounts and deals in other areas.

I’ve compiled all the most updated and relevant information around the internet to find Verizon deals and discounts for seniors.

Points that I’ll cover throughout this guide include:

Keep reading, and learn more.

Key Takeaways

  • Verizon only offer Senior discounts in Florida for their mobile service
  • There are no internet or TV discounts specifically for seniors
  • Veterans can get discounts with Verizon
  • Even though many seniors won’t be able to get a deal with Verizon, they still offer some great services

Does Verizon Offer Discounts for Seniors?

Verizon only offers discounts to seniors for their Unlimited phone plans. You’ll pay $60 a month for one line or $80 for two lines. You cannot get senior discounts for Verizon wireless internet services.

However, Verizon requires you to enable Auto Pay and paperless billing features in your online account to see these prices ($10 discount). Otherwise, you’ll pay $70 and $90 monthly.

I’ll cover the $10 monthly discount later and provide detailed steps on enabling them.

The cellular service senior discount is through their 55+ Unlimited Plan. And through this plan, you’ll get the following:

  • 6-month Apple Music free: up to $60 in savings
  • Verizon Up rewards: rewards program that gives you access to special offers
  • Unlimited 4G LTE / 5G Nationwide data
  • Unlimited calling to Mexico and Canada
  • Unlimited domestic Talk & Text
  • Unlimited Mobile Hotspot: speeds up to 600 Kbps

Verizon’s Unlimited plan for seniors allows you to watch streaming services in 480p resolution.

I’ll dive further into getting the senior plan and other potential Verizon Unlimited and Prepaid discounts.

Despite having no Verizon Fios internet plans for seniors, you can still find home internet deals under certain circumstances. I’ll cover those after detailing the mobile discount.

Age Requirements for Verizon Senior Discounts

Verizon considers seniors as anyone 55 years and over. They’ll verify your age by requiring you to provide your date of birth when signing up for the cellular plan.

All of their other qualifications include:

  • You’re a new customer
  • Live in Florida state: they’ll use your billing address to verify you live in Florida
  • Have one or two phones on your account
  • Aged 55 and over

Existing senior customers can’t get this discount. And you can’t have any more than two phones on your account. Otherwise, you’ll lose the discount.

How to Sign Up for Verizon Senior Discounts?

You’ll need to visit Verizon’s senior discount eligibility page and enter the following information:

  • Whether you live in Florida
  • Birth year
  • The number of phone lines you need
  • Whether you’re new to Verizon

Once you’re eligible, you’ll sign up for a Verizon account.

Verizon won’t automatically sign you up for the Senior 55+ Unlimited plan once you turn 55. You must contact them to change your account’s status.

Their reasoning is that they don’t want to change your plan without authorization.

Verizon Wireless Internet Discounts for Seniors

Despite not having Verizon Fios internet plans for seniors, you can find other discounts. To help you find better pricing, I’ll cover:

  • Verizon wireless internet plans
  • Low-income internet
  • Deals for veterans

The following sections will cover qualifications and discount amounts.

Verizon Fios Internet Plans

Here are typical prices for Verizon internet plans:

Fios PlanSpeed (Download/upload)* Price (New Customer Price)
300/300300/300 Mbps$49.99/mo.
500/500500/500 Mbps$69.99/mo.
Fios Gigabit940/800 Mbps$89.99/mo.
Fios Prepaid 100 Mbps100/100 Mbps$39.99/mo.
Fios Prepaid 300 Mbps300/300 Mbps$59.99/mo.
Prepaid Gigabit Connection940/800 Mbps$79.99/mo.
This table lists Verizon Fios’ internet-only plans. It compares their speeds and prices.

* These prices don’t include taxes, equipment charges, and other fees. They do include Verizon’s Auto Pay discount.

Upon signing up for one of these plans, you’ll have an option to buy a Verizon Fios Router gateway (modem/router combination). For a one-time fee of $399 or $18 monthly. If you went with the monthly route, it would take 22 months to pay it off.

Unless your home needs THE BEST Wi-Fi speed, you won’t need to get the Verizon internet gateway. You can buy your own separate devices for a couple of hundred dollars.

If you don’t qualify for any discounts yet still want to use Verizon, you’ll want to know your options. Fios Prepaid 100 Mbps gives the most affordable pricing at $39.99.

You likely won’t need 300 Mbps internet speeds. That’s more so for homes with over five people who simultaneously do stuff online.

100 Mbps seems more realistic. It can support a few users simultaneously doing stuff online. Plus, it gives you equal download and upload speeds.

Some providers (not Verizon) will give you less upload speeds, so sending files to people online will take longer.

You won’t need to sign a contract, get a credit check, or pay a deposit with Prepaid Fios.

None of these plans have a data cap [1]. That means your household can use as much internet as it wants without paying extra.

But:

Only residents in these states can get Verizon Wi-Fi home internet:

  • Washington DC
  • Virginia
  • Rhode Island
  • Pennsylvania
  • Massachusetts
  • Delaware
  • New York
  • Maryland
  • New Jersey

You can get free Verizon internet. I’ll explain how in the next point.

Verizon Discount for Home Phone and Internet: Lifeline Discount

Explore the discounts you’ll see when applying a Lifeline Discount to Verizon Fios internet plans:

Fios PlanSpeed (Download/upload)* Price (New Customer Price)Price (w/ Lifeline Discount)
300/300300/300 Mbps$49.99/mo.Free
500/500500/500 Mbps$69.99/mo.$24.99/mo.
Gigabit Connection940/800 Mbps$89.99/mo.$49.99/mo.
This table compares the speeds and prices for various Verizon plans and their Lifeline discount pricing.

* These prices don’t include taxes or other fees. But you’ll have to enable the paper-free billing, and automatic payment features to see these ‘lower’ prices.

New and existing Verizon customers can get the Lifeline discount. If you or someone in your household meet any one of their qualifications.

They have an enormous list of criteria, but here are some examples [2]:

  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Tribal benefits programs (you must also live in qualifying Tribal Lands)
  • Food Stamps (or SNAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

You can download a paper Lifeline application or apply online at checklifeline.org/lifeline. If you live in Connecticut, you must apply via paper application.

Upon verifying your eligibility for the discount, contact Verizon customer support at 800-837-4966 to begin receiving your discount.

Verizon Fios Home Internet Discounts for Veterans

Veterans of all military branches can get Verizon wireless internet discounts such as:

TierPrice w/ Veteran DiscountPrice w/ 5G Plan*Original Price
300 Mbps$24.99/mo.$19.99/mo.$49.99/mo.
500 Mbps$44.99/mo.$34.99/mo.$69.99/mo.
Gigabit Connection$64.99/mo.$49.99/mo.$89.99/mo.
This table shows the Verizon internet discount for veterans.

* This price doesn’t include taxes, activation fees, other fees, and fees after Verizon’s ‘guaranteed price.’ It does include the discount for enabling Auto Pay and paperless billing.

If you also have an Unlimited plan, you can save between 57–85% on your Fios home internet bill. Otherwise, you’ll save up to 18% when only subscribing to their internet plan.

Veterans can also waive the $99 setup fee when signing up for an online Fios home internet-only plan.

If you’re a veteran from any military branch and want this deal, visit Verizon.com/info/Fios-military-discounts and follow the page’s prompts.

You’ll need to verify your previous military status with ID.me (a verification company). ID.me won’t work with the Internet Explorer browser.

You may have to wait around 10 days for ID.me or Verizon to verify your documents.

Once validated, you’ll need to log into or create a Verizon Fios internet account.

It’ll take one or two billing cycles for the discount to appear on your Verizon account.

You can keep using this discount if you continue using qualifying internet plans. But once a year, Verizon may ask you to re-validate your military status. You’ll have 30 days to respond to their message.

Other Verizon Discounts for Existing Customers (And New)

Verizon offers other deals for existing and new customers that include:

  • Deals on Verizon cell phones
  • Discounted streaming services
  • Automatic bill payment and paper-free billing

Each section will cover the discount’s details and how to qualify.

Before we continue, I want to cover a previous rewards program Verizon offered. That way, you don’t find it elsewhere and think you can get it.

It’s the Mobile + Home rewards program. Verizon used to give customers a discount for bundling their Unlimited cellular service and Fios home internet.

In June 2022, they blocked new applicants [3]. So there’s no way you can get it anymore.

Verizon Phone and Accessory Deals

Verizon will give you a $500 free prepaid gift card if you bring your own phone to their plan. You can get up to 40% off select accessories. And you could get up to $800 to put toward a phone upgrade when you trade in an old mobile phone.

Their accessories deals change frequently. So you’ll need to type Verizon.com/deals/products into your browser’s address bar and check it.

You’ll mostly find discounts on Bluetooth speakers and earbuds.

New customers can get a free Verizon cell phone. They’re not bad phones, either. A couple of examples include the Apple iPhone 12 (new) and Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G UW.

But you’ll need to open a new line on their Unlimited cellular plan. In case you’re curious, here are what the prices look like for their 5G cell phone plans:

Phone Plan* Price
5G Start$35/mo.
5G Do More$45/mo.
5G Play More$45/mo.
5G Get More$55/mo.
This table compares Verizon’s Wireless’ 5G Unlimited cell phone plans.

* These prices don’t include taxes, activation fees, and other fees. And you must activate the $10 automatic payment and paperless billing discounts to see these prices.

Or you can trade in an older phone and get in-store credit toward an upgrade. The amount of credit you’ll receive depends on your phone model.

You’ll need to visit Verizon.com/trade-in to see what price you’ll get.

Verizon also will guide you through clearing personal information from your phone. That way, you won’t have to worry about the next phone owner accessing your sensitive information.

The following section will cover deals you can get on streaming services.

Free Streaming Service Subscriptions

Using a Verizon Wireless Unlimited plan will give you six months of Disney+ and discovery+ (Add-Free) streaming services free.

Qualifying Unlimited plans include:

  • 5G Start
  • 5G Play More
  • 5G Do More
  • 5G Get More

discovery+ gives you plenty of series from HGTV, Discovery Channel, and more. Paying for six months of this streaming service on your own would usually cost you $41.94.

You’ll love Disney+ if you want to watch series or movies with your family. Or to binge every Star Wars movie and show five times a year, like me.

You’ll save $47.94 by getting a free subscription to Disney’s streaming platform.

Existing subscribers to these platforms can still get six months of free service.

Whether you’re a new or existing Disney+ and discovery+ user, you’ll want to follow these steps to get these discounts on your Verizon account:

  1. Log into your online Verizon account
  2. Select the ‘Apps & add-ons’ option
  3. Select Disney+ and/or discovery+
  4. Select the ‘Enroll in’ button

From thereon, log into your streaming services and start watching.

Automatic Monthly Payment and Paper-free Billing Discount

Verizon will give you a $10 monthly discount when turning on the paper-free billing and Auto pay account features.

To qualify for the discount, you must connect the automatic payment feature to a bank account and use one of these Verizon plans:

  • 5G Get More
  • 5G Do More
  • 5G Play More
  • 5G Start
  • Welcome Unlimited
  • Any Fios Home Internet plan

When signing up for automatic bill payments, you’ll automatically choose what date you want Verizon to pay for your service bill.

How do you enable the paper-free billing and Auto Pay Verizon features?

Log into your Verizon online account and follow these steps:

  1. Select ‘Account’
  2. Click ‘Billing’
  3. Choose ‘Auto Pay’
  4. Go back a page
  5. Click ‘Paper Free Billing’
  6. Toggle on the box next to the text that reads ‘Enroll’

You’ll need to wait (at max) a couple of billing cycles for this discount to show up on your account.

How It Compares To Other Senior Discounts (Cellular)

Here’s how Verizon internet deals for seniors compares to other cellular service providers:

Service Provider* Price
Verizon Unlimited 55+ PlanOne line: $60/mo.Two lines: $80/mo.
AT&T Unlimited 55+$80/mo. for two lines
T-Mobile Essentials 55+$27.50 per line/mo.
This table compares senior cellular discounts among mobile phone service providers.

* These prices include Auto Pay discounts. They don’t include taxes, activation fees, and other fees cell phone providers feel like charging.

Verizon only offers discounts to seniors on their Unlimited plan if they’re new customers. Existing customers can’t take advantage of this deal.

They also charge the most per line monthly compared to other providers.

T-Mobile wins regarding price. Meanwhile, they offer a decent number of features and freebies.

All other plans than Verizon don’t require you to live in Florida, so they offer significantly more flexibility.

I’d love to find good things about Verizon’s senior mobile plan, but it’s hard when comparing it to competitors.

Regarding Verizon’s other discounts, that’s where they surpass their competitors.

Low-income individuals who qualify for their Lifeline extension can get free 300 Mbps internet. Though, many households won’t even need these speeds. These speeds support homes with over five people.

But it’s free.

Conclusion

Seniors won’t find discounts for Verizon internet plans. But they do offer discounts for their Unlimited mobile service. However, new and existing customers can qualify for other Verizon deals.

For instance, veterans of all branches can get up to $25 off of internet plans (depending on the tier you choose).

You may not have found the best deals on this page. Don’t give up on your search, though. Check out other internet and cell phone providers to potentially find better deals.

    • Hi Dave, unfortunately, there is no special Verizon discount for any senior living outside Florida right now.

      Too bad, I know!
