Verizon Internet & Cell Phone Deals for Teachers in 2024

Qualifying teachers can get a $20 discount on Verizon Fios home internet. They can also save up to $25 when signing up for specific Unlimited cellular plans. I’ll cover the details for these deals and other deals throughout this guide.

As a money-saving enthusiast, I want to help the most people possible save on their bills. I’ve grouped all the most relevant and updated information teachers could need about Verizon’s deals.

To find Verizon Wireless teacher discounts, I’ll cover areas like:

Let’s find deals for educators.

Does Verizon Offer Discounts for Teachers?

Teachers can save up to $25 on Verizon 5G cellular plans. They can also save 32–66% on Verizon internet service plans. These discounts apply to new and existing Verizon Wireless customers.

I’ll cover the details surrounding each detail at different points throughout this guide.

If you’re a veteran and a teacher, you can only select one deal at a time. Because Verizon only allows one military, teacher, or nurse discount per account.

How To Qualify for the Verizon Teachers Discount

You’ll need to meet the following requirements to qualify for the Verizon education discount:

  • Currently-employed teacher: K-12 or post-secondary
  • Must validate your employment through Verizon’s third-party partner
  • Sign up for a qualifying Unlimited or Fios home internet plan
  • Residents of New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts will need to provide a teaching certificate

Documents you can use to verify you’re an employed teacher include proof of employment/affiliation letter less than 60 days old. Or you can use an electronic pay stub.

You can take a picture of this document and send it to your computer. Ensure you black out personal information such as:

  • Social Security Number
  • Employee ID Number
  • Banking information
  • Tax amounts
  • Salary

Though Verizon or ID.me doesn’t share this information with anyone else, you still don’t want a picture of your social security number. A hacker COULD find this picture if you or the companies aren’t careful.

And the document must include your name, your school’s name, and the date.

Retired teachers can’t get this discount. But if you’re a retired teacher and a veteran (from any branch), you can qualify for Verizon’s military discount.

Verizon Teacher Discount Verification: Steps to Take

Follow these steps to verify your status as a currently employed teacher with Verizon:

  1. Visit Verizon.com/info/teachers and select ‘Check Eligibility’
  2. Verizon Wireless will redirect you to a third-party website (ID.me)
  3. If you don’t have an ID.me account, you’ll need to create one: you’ll need to submit your documents through this website
  4. Once you’re validated, you’ll log in to your Verizon online account and activate your discount

It’ll take at max two billing cycles for this discount to take effect. And it may take around 10 days to verify your teaching employment documents.

You can check whether Verizon Wireless applied the discount to your account by checking the Billing & Account page.

You’ll have to re-verify your teaching employment status once a year. You’ll have 30 days to respond to their notice. They’ll remove the discount from your account once that time passes.

Verizon Fios Discount for Teachers

Verizon Wireless gives teachers $25 off Fios home internet plans. That’s up to 66% in monthly savings.

I’ll cover the details of their home internet deal throughout the following points. I’ll also dive into Fios internet discounts for low-income households and veterans.

And if you don’t qualify for these discounts, yet want to go with Verizon, I found a plan that could save you a bit of money. I’ll emphasize in a moment.

Verizon Fios Internet Plans

Here are most of the Verizon Wireless internet plans you’ll find:

Fios Plan* Regular PricePrice After Teacher DiscountSavings
300/300$49.99/mo.$24.99/mo.66%
500/500$69.99/mo.$44.99/mo.43%
Fios Gigabit$89.99/mo.$64.99/mo.32%
Fios Prepaid 100 Mbps$39.99/mo.NANA
Fios Prepaid 300 Mbps$59.99/mo.NANA
Prepaid Gigabit Connection$79.99/mo.NANA
This table lists Verizon Fios’ internet-only plans. It compares their speeds and prices.

* These prices don’t include taxes, equipment charges, and other fees. They do have Verizon’s Auto Pay discount.

New Fios internet customers can waive the $99 setup fee by ordering online.

You don’t get savings from Prepaid Home internet plans, but you do with their regular Fios plans.

Will 300 Mbps internet suffice for your home? Absolutely.

300 Mbps internet speeds can handle over five devices simultaneously using your network. And with high upload speeds, you could run over five 1080p home security cameras without issues.

You’ll also get $5 off Digital Home Phone services monthly, $30 in savings for their Unlimited Wireless plan, and 12 months of AMC+ free. I’ll cover AMC’s streaming service later.

And the cheaper phone plan.

But let’s talk about the Fios gateway router. It’s expensive, and you don’t get one free with your plan. You can pay an $18 monthly rental fee or $399 upfront to keep the device.

Verizon’s internet router combines routers and modems. Getting one also saves you much time you would have otherwise spent on research. You should get your own router and modem, though.

You pay less. Unless you want top-tier home networking devices. Like one that supports Wi-Fi 6E (the newest Wi-Fi standard).

It’s up to you. Since you’ll need specific routers that work with Verizon Wireless, we’ve crafted a guide to help you find one. It reduces the time you’ll need to waste researching.

You’re likely wondering if Verizon has a data cap. They don’t. That means you won’t have to pay extra money monthly to get unlimited data.

Nor will you have to pay for data overage fees.

Yet, you can only get Verizon Fios home internet in these areas:

  • Washington DC
  • Virginia
  • Rhode Island
  • Pennsylvania
  • Massachusetts
  • Delaware
  • New York
  • Maryland
  • New Jersey

While you’re limited to availability, you can save a decent amount of money using Verizon internet. If you take part in a government benefits program. Or, if someone else in your household does, you can qualify for cheaper Fios.

Verizon Lifeline Discount

The Verizon Lifeline discount can take up to 100% off your home phone and internet bill. But you’ll have to meet the qualifications. These include participating in specific government benefits programs.

Before diving into the Lifeline criteria, let’s explore what Fios pricing you’ll see with the discount:

Fios Plan* Speed (Download/upload)** Price (w/o Lifeline Discount)Price (w/ Lifeline Discount)
300/300300/300 Mbps$49.99/mo.Free
500/500500/500 Mbps$69.99/mo.$24.99/mo.
Gigabit Connection940/800 Mbps$89.99/mo.$49.99/mo.
This table covers the pricing for Verizon Fios home internet plans with the Lifeline discount applied.

* These speeds may not reflect what you’ll get. For instance, peak usage times can lower your internet speeds.

** These prices don’t include local and state taxes or other fees. They already include paperless billing and Auto Pay discounts.

You can get the Lifeline discount as a new and existing customer. But you’ll need to meet at least one of these qualifications:

  • Tribal benefits programs (must also live on qualifying tribal lands)
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Veterans pension

Find more information regarding other programs here.

To apply, you’ll need to meet one of the qualifications. Then apply for the Lifeline National Verifier online or by mail. Afterward, you’ll have to contact Verizon’s customer support staff.

Verizon Wireless Discounts for Teachers

You can get up to $25 off your Unlimited cellular plan as a teacher. Or you can bundle qualifying 5G plans and Fios home internet plans for $40 on your plans.

The following section will cover these deals:

  • Verizon Unlimited discount for teachers
  • Discount for bundling 5G and Fios
  • Prepaid plans
  • Deals for Verizon cell phones

Applying for the Unlimited detail entails the same steps as using for discounted Fios internet. Thus, refer to the steps above for more information.

Verizon Cell Phone Plan Discounts for Teachers

Verizon gives you a $10 monthly discount for plans with one line. A $20 discount for two to three lines. And $25 for having four lines.

You can have a maximum of four lines on this plan.

Here are Verizon’s qualifying cell phone plans for the discount. And here’s what happens when you apply the teacher discount to them:

Phone Plan* PricePrice w/ Teacher Discount (1 Line)
5G Do More$45/mo.$35/mo.
5G Play More$45/mo.$35/mo.
5G Get More$55/mo.$45/mo.
This table presents various Verizon phone plans and compares different aspects like pricing and data.

* These prices do not include state and local taxes. Nor do they include fees. But they have Verizon’s automatic payments discount.

If you can split the bill with family or friends who have lines on your plan, you can save significantly more money.

When getting a Wireless plan as a teacher, you’ll also find freebies like:

  • Stream TV: I don’t think this costs money anyway
  • PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus (free for 12 months) [1]: you’d otherwise have to pay $119.98 per year for both
  • Amazon Smart Home Bundle: Ring Stick Up Cam Battery and Amazon Echo Show 5 (worth $139.98)

You’ll save over $250 with these additions. That’s if you use them.

Verizon has excellent 5G discounts and freebies for teachers. However, they require credit checks whenever signing up for a new plan. Or adding a new plan to a line.

Suppose your credit isn’t the best; you may want to consider the plan I’ll cover in the next section. I’ll explain why in a second.

Verizon Prepaid Plans

Here are Verizon cellular Prepaid plans:

Phone Plan* Price
5 GB$25–$40/mo.
15 GB$35–$50/mo.
Unlimited$50–$65/mo.
Unlimited Plus$60–75/mo.
This table compares Verizon Prepaid plans for cell phones.

* These discounts include the Auto Pay discount. They don’t include taxes or other fees that might incur.

Prepaying your home internet ahead of time saves money and you from having to go through a credit check. You don’t have to sign a contract or pay a deposit to start your Verizon service.

For 5G plans, deposits for those who don’t have stellar credit can range over $100 [2]. The amount you’ll pay will depend on your credit rating and what Verizon charges at the time.

You’ll have to consider the savings you’ll get with the Unlimited plans vs. the deposit you’ll pay.

Anyway:

Prepaying internet for the first few months won’t save you any money. But you can prepay 4–9 months’ worth of your bill to save $5 per month. Or you can prepay over 10 months in advance to save $10 a month.

Prepaid data plans for mobile hotspots, tablets, and routers include:

Phone Plan* Price
5 GB$40/mo.
25 GB$60/mo.
100 GB$80/mo.
150 GB$100/mo.
This table compares Verizon Prepaid plans for routers, tablets, and pocketable hotspots.

* These prices don’t include taxes or other potential fees.

Each Prepaid cellular data line you add to your Prepaid Data plan receives a $30 discount. So this plan will work best for you who frequently travel with various devices. Or who likes to work in coffee shops.

Verizon Phone Discounts for Teachers

Verizon doesn’t offer phone discounts for teachers. But they’ll give you up to $800 as in-store credit when trading in your old phone.

The amount of credit you’ll get depends on factors like:

  • Phone provider
  • Color
  • Condition: whether it has damages
  • Phone model

I’ve tested the Verizon phone appraiser tool. And if your phone doesn’t turn on or has battery damage, they’ll give you $0.

By battery damage, I mean having a battery that doesn’t work. For instance, if you notice that your phone is fat in the back. That means you have a bloated battery.

Anyway:

To qualify for this deal, you’ll need to visit verizon.com/trade-in and follow the prompts.

From there, they’ll help you clear all of your personal data from your device and mail it in. Ensure that you want to trade in your device, though. Because they won’t send it back once you mail it out.

Other Verizon Discounts for Existing Customers (And New)

Other Verizon discounts for existing customers include:

  • Teachers Appreciation Week
  • Free streaming services

The following sections will cover the details of each deal. You’ll learn how much you’ll save and how to score these discounts (or freebies).

Teachers Appreciation Week

Verizon doesn’t specify whether they have discounts for teacher’s appreciation week.

Once you verify your status as a teacher and sign up for email notifications, you MAY receive an email promoting discounts during that week.

Free Streaming Service Subscriptions.

Teachers with Verizon mobile subscriptions get a free 12 months of AMC+ (over $107 in savings) [3]. Some plans give you six months of Disney+ or discovery+ for free.

You must use or upgrade to one of these plans:

  • 5G Play More
  • 5G Get More
  • 5G Do More

And once you’re on any of these plans, follow these pages in your My Verizon account to enable your discount:

Account > Apps & add-ons > Disney+, AMC+, or discovery+ > Enroll in “blank”

You’ll need to log into or create new accounts for these streaming services after enabling these discounts.

How It Compares To Other Teacher Discounts

I couldn’t find any internet service provider offering specific teacher discounts or plans. Thus, Verizon is the only company to offer discounted home internet to teachers.

It doesn’t mean they have the most affordable service, though. Shop around at other providers before getting internet services.

And here’s how their Unlimited Wireless plan discount for educators compares to other cellular providers:

Tier* Price (1 Line)
Verizon Unlimited$35/mo.
AT&T$48.75/mo.
T-Mobile Magenta Max$72.25/mo.
This table compares teacher discounts from various mobile providers

* These prices don’t include sales tax or other fees.

Verizon offers the most affordable service for plans that have a single line. You’ll want to calculate additional lines to determine whether the savings are worth it.

Then you will need to consider the added perks to each account. Verizon offers more free streaming services. But T-Mobile offers free Netflix and free in-flight texting, calling, and Wi-Fi.

AT&T doesn’t charge too much, but they also don’t offer the most perks.
