Xfinity Voice Services
Xfinity Voice is a service that offers a digital VoIP landline phone separated from your mobile service. It uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and thus you can only get it if you already have Xfinity internet service.
VoIP phones offer better audio quality and many extra features. This includes three-way calling, which allows you to have calls with three people. And voicemail to text messaging, making it possible to send messages using your Voice.
Furthermore, unlike Xfinity’s internet and TV service, Voice doesn’t require any contract. You can thus cancel it whenever you want (unless you get it in a bundle).

Xfinity Voice Equipment
For Xfinity Voice, you will require a modem compatible with your Voice service. You can either rent a modem/router combo from Xfinity for $14/month or buy your own third-party model.
We here at Networks Hardware recommend most buy their own devices because it’s cheaper in the long run – even for Xfinity voice service.
We have an article on the best modems for Xfinity if you want to learn more.
But if you just want the answer, we recommend the Netgear CM2050V for you who want a separate modem and router and the Motorola MT8733 for you who want a modem/router combo.
If you don’t know if you want a modem/router combo or separate device (or are uncertain what it means), check out our article on modem/router combos vs. separate devices.
Xfinity also doesn’t include a handset phone with their service, but basically, anyone will work. I recommend the one, which is the one my parents use. It has always worked great.

Xfinity Landline Features
Dependent on which plan you get, Xfinity Voice has up to 12 features: [1]
- Call forwarding
- Call forwarding selective
- Caller ID with call waiting
- Caller ID blocking per call
- Caller ID
- Call waiting
- 3-way calling
- Call return
- Call screening
- Speed dial
- Anonymous call rejection
- Repeat dialing
Here are each feature explained in more detail:
Call forwarding – Call forwarding allows you to forward a mobile call to another phone number. This also works with other mobile phones or a landline phone. In practice, this can mean that if you have call forwarding on, your phone won’t ring. Instead, the call will be sent to the phone number you have chosen as your forwarding number.
Call forwarding selective – This feature is very similar to Call Forwarding. Still, instead of forwarding every call, you can choose what phone number you want to forward.
Caller ID with call waiting – This feature will allow you to see the number of an incoming call when you are talking to someone else.
Caller ID blocking per call – This will block your phone number from showing up when calling someone. Instead, it will show private or anonymous. Perfect if you want to make an anonymous call or protect your unlisted phone number.
Caller ID – Caller ID is very much like Caller ID with call waiting. When you receive a call, it will display the phone number, location, and associated billing or subscriber name.
Call waiting – When you are on call with someone and have “Call waiting” turned on, you will hear a Call waiting tone if someone else calls you. You can then choose wherever or not to answer, and put the other call on temporarily hold, or ignore it.
3-way calling – Three-Way Calling gives you the ability to get two people on the same call. This is good for sharing good news or making plans with more than one person at a time.
Call return – Call return will allow you to automatically call the last person who called you. Just note that this feature is not available in all regions and is not included with the Xfinity Voice Unlimited Saver plan.
Call screening – This feature lets you set up a list of up to 25 callers who will receive statements declaring that you aren’t available if they call you.
Speed dial – This allows you to instantly call friends, family, and colleagues, even if you don’t remember their phone numbers.
Anonymous call rejection – This feature will automatically block any private or anonymous caller.
Repeat dialing – Repeat dialing will allow you to repeatedly dial a busy phone number until someone answers. This makes it easier to get a hold of a busy support line or something equivalent.
Xfinity Connect App
As of April 2021, the Xfinity Connect App has been retired.
If you want to check your Xfinity email, voicemails, and call logs, you can now do that on Xfinity’s web portal or an email app like Outlook.
Xfinity International Calling
If you get the Xfinity Voice Unlimited plan, you will get Xfinity International Calling. This makes it possible for you to call around half the globe (around 80 countries) for free for 300 minutes each month.
To see which countries are on the list, go here.
If you call a country that isn’t on the list, or if you don’t have the Xfinity Voice Unlimited plan, you will have to pay the designated international calling rates.
Xfinity Mobile
Xfinity Voice should not get confused with Xfinity Mobile.
The difference is that Xfinity Voice offers a landline phone, while Xfinity Mobile provides you with a cell phone service.
Xfinity Mobile, like Xfinity Voice, is only available for existing Xfinity customers.
In my experience, Xfinity Mobile is best for data sharing. Meaning if you buy 10 GB per month and then share it between the family.

Xfinity Voice Service Availability
Xfinity Voice service will be available for anyone with Xfinity internet service. This is because they use the same infrastructure.
And if you want to check if you have access to Xfinity internet service, you can do that here.
Bottom Line – Is the Xfinity Home Phone Worth It?
As is often the case for such service, it really depends.
Live in a rural area with a spotty mobile connection and already have Xfinity internet service? Then Xfinity Home Phone can definitely be worth it.
But, if you have a strong mobile connection, you might want to consider only getting Xfinity Mobile instead.
You also have a 30-days money-back guarantee if you change your mind.

Xfinity phone service FAQs
Here are some common questions about Xfinity phone service.
What’s the difference between a normal landline phone and an Xfinity Voice VoIP phone?
A normal analog phone uses copper wires to deliver the data. In contrast, a VoIP phone transmits the data over the internet. This leads to better audio quality and many more cloud-based features.
That said, if your internet service goes down or there is a power outage, your VoIP phone will stop working. While a normal analog phone would keep working.
Does Xfinity Voice service come with a landline home phone?
No, it doesn’t. You will have to buy one for yourself and don’t sweat about it. Nearly anyone will do. I recommend the XXXX as this is the one my parents use, and it has always worked well.
How much is Xfinity phone service?
Usually, Xfinity phone service is about $9.95 extra per month. But depending on where you live and what you bundle, it might be less or even more.
