I’m Jon, a home network pro with first-hand experience with almost every common issue with Comcast Xfinity modem/routers. I’ve had– and fixed– the blue light problem before and put this guide together to help you fix yours.
So, please keep reading to learn what the blinking blue light on your Xfinity modem/router means and how to fix it.
What a Blinking Blue Light Indicates on a Comcast Xfinity Modem/Router
Before we get into how to fix the blinking blue light on Xfinity routers, let’s quickly go over what it indicates.
A blinking blue light typically means that your Xfinity modem or router is in WPS pairing mode. WPS stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup, a feature that lets you connect Xfinity Wi-Fi-enabled devices to your network without entering a password.
However, if your Xfinity modem/router wasn’t in WPS mode when the blue light started blinking and you can’t seem to get it to stop, there may be another issue at hand. In that case, you can try some of the solutions in this guide to see if they help fix your Xfinity router’s blinking blue light problem.
How to Fix the Blinking Blue Light on Your Comcast Xfinity Modem and Router
There are several ways to fix the blinking blue light on Xfinity modems and routers. Some of these solutions may work for you while others may not, so it’s best to try them all until you find one that works.
Here are some Xfinity modem and router blue light fixes that you can try:
#1 Press the WPS Button on Your Xfinity Modem or Router
If your Xfinity modem or router has a WPS button, you can try pressing it to see if that stops the blue light from blinking. If the blue light was blinking because your Xfinity device was in WPS mode, this should turn off WPS mode and stop the blue light from flashing.
If pressing the WPS button doesn’t work or if your Xfinity modem or router doesn’t have a WPS button, don’t worry. There are still other Xfinity blue light fixes that you can try.
#2 Power Cycle/Restart the Router
If pressing the WPS button (if your Xfinity device has one) doesn’t stop the blue light from blinking, you can try power cycling your Xfinity modem or router. To do this, unplug the power cord from your Xfinity device, wait 5-10 seconds, and then plug it back in.
You can also just turn it off by pressing the power button. Either way will work.
After power cycling your Xfinity modem/router, wait a minute or two to see if the blue light starts blinking again. If it does, try another Xfinity blue light fix from this guide.
#3 Check Your Cables and Connections
If you’ve tried all of the Xfinity blue light fixes above and the blue light is still blinking, there may be an issue with one of your cables or connections. To check them, disconnect all Ethernet and Coax cables from your Xfinity modem or router, wait a few seconds, and reconnect them.
Note: if you have a separate router and modem, disconnect all cables from both devices. However, if you have a Comcast-provided router/modem, it is likely a combo unit (modem and router in one device).
After reconnecting all of your Xfinity cables and connections, wait a minute or two to see if the blue light starts blinking again.
#4 Restore to Factory Defaults
If you’ve tried all of the Xfinity blue light fixes above and the blue light is still blinking, your last resort is to restore your Xfinity device to factory defaults.
This will delete any customized settings you’ve made on your Xfinity device, so write them down before doing this. To restore your Xfinity device to factory defaults, press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds.
After restoring your Xfinity device to factory defaults, wait a few minutes to see if the blinking blue light stops.
If the blue light on your Xfinity modem or router is still blinking after trying all of these Xfinity blue light fixes, your last resort is to contact Xfinity support.
#5 Contact Comcast Xfinity Support
If you’ve tried all of the Xfinity blue light fixes above and the blue light is still blinking, you need to contact Xfinity support.
You can contact Xfinity support by phone or chat, and they may be able to help you troubleshoot the issue. If they can’t fix it over the phone or chat, they may need to send a technician to your house. You can also visit an Xfinity store to get in-person support.
Conclusion
If the blue light on your Xfinity modem or router is blinking, there are a few Xfinity blue light fixes that you can try to fix the issue.
You can try power cycling your Xfinity device, restarting WPS mode, restoring your Xfinity device to factory defaults, and other troubleshooting options. If none of these fixes work, you’ll need to contact Xfinity support.
