I’m Jon, a home networking pro with first-hand experience with Comcast Xfinity modems/routers. I’ve had the blinking green light issue before and put together this guide to help you resolve it.

So, keep reading to learn why your Comcast Xfinity modem/router is blinking green and how to get it back up and running.

What a Blinking Green Light Indicates on a Comcast Xfinity Modem/Router

Before we jump into how to fix the pesky blinking green light on your Xfinity modem and router, let’s discuss what it means first.

If you have a blinking green light on your Xfinity modem/router, that indicates it is in the process of connecting to the Internet.

However, if the light continues to blink after a few minutes, it may indicate a problem with your Internet connection.

If you’re having this issue, try the steps below to fix it.

How to Fix the Blinking Green Light on Your Comcast Xfinity Modem and Router

Here are all the ways you can use to fix the blinking green light on your Comcast Xfinity modem and router.

#1 Check for Outages From Your ISP

The first step is to check for any outages in your area. Comcast Xfinity offers an Outage Map on their website that lets you see if there’s currently an outage in your area. If there is, all you can do is wait it out until they resolve the issue.

Once the outage is over, the light on your modem/router should return to solid green.

#2 Check Another Device

Suppose you have a separate modem and router. In that case, connect a laptop directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable.

If you can access the Internet fine, then you have an issue with the router. On the other hand, if the issue is still present, you have a modem or ISP problem.

But, if you have a Comcast-provide modem/router combination unit, you can skip this step.

#3 Check Your Cables and Restart Your Modem/Router

Check the cables on your Comcast Xfinity gateway if your light is still blinking green.

Start by making sure that all of the cables are plugged in securely and are undamaged. If they look fine, unplug them and then plug them back in again. Once you’ve done that, restart your Comcast Xfinity gateway and see if the light is still blinking green.

If it is, the next step is to check the cable connected to your Comcast Xfinity gateway. Make sure that it’s plugged into the correct port (The WAN port). You should also ensure that it’s plugged into the correct port on your computer and router.

#4 Disconnect Other Devices From Your Network

Too many devices may be connected to your Comcast Xfinity gateway, causing a poor connection. Disconnect all of the other devices from your network. If that stops the green light from blinking, try reconnecting each device to your network again one by one.

#5 Check Your Modem’s & Router’s Log files

The next step is to check your modem’s & router’s log files to see if anything information is present to help identify your network issues. Log into your router’s/modem’s admin panel and navigate to log files.

Unfortunately, Xfinity sometimes blocks access to log files on the equipment you rent from them. But, if you have your own modem/router, you should be able to view them and gain some insights.

#6 Perform a Factory Reset

If the above steps haven’t worked, you’ll need to perform a factory reset on your Comcast Xfinity gateway. To do this, log in to your Comcast Xfinity gateway and click on the reset button.

Note: Resetting your modem/router will reset all of your settings back to their factory defaults. I suggest doing this step only if nothing else works.

Once you’ve reset your gateway, wait a few minutes to see if the light on your Comcast Xfinity gateway has stopped blinking and is now solid green.

#7 Contact Comcast Support

If you’ve tried all of the above steps and still have issues, it’s time to get help from Comcast Xfinity.

The best way to do this is to log into your Comcast Xfinity account and go to the My Devices page. From here, click on your modem, click on the Get Help button, or visit their Contact Us page.

Comcast Xfinity will walk you through a series of troubleshooting steps. If they cannot fix the problem, they can schedule a technician to visit your home and fix it.

Conclusion

If your Comcast Xfinity modem/router is blinking green, it usually means it is trying to connect to the Internet. But sometimes, it gets stuck and leaves you with slow Wi-Fi or no access to the web at all.

You can attempt to resolve the blinking green light issue with the tips above.

Otherwise, you’ll have to contact Comcast customer service and possibly even arrange a technician visit if your Internet connection continues not to work.
