How to Log In to Your Linksys Router

  • Last updated on September 4, 2022
  • By Jonathon Jachura
To log into your Linksys router, type 192.168. 1.1 into your web browser’s URL bar, then hit enter. Use “admin” as the password and leave the username blank to log in. If you have changed the password, this will not work. Suppose you have forgotten what you changed to, then you need to reset the router.

I’m Jon, a home networking guru. I access my router about once a month and put together this guide to help you with yours.

So, keep reading to learn how to access your Linksys router.

What You Need Before Accessing Linksys Router

Before you attempt to log into your Linksys router, you must complete a few critical steps first.

Follow the quick procedures below before attempting to access your router’s admin panel.

Internet Connection

Check that your Linksys router has a connection to the Internet first. It is connected if its “WAN” or “Internet” status light is lit up and not blinking. Or, if you connect a device to its network and can load a webpage, it has an Internet connection.

If your Linksys router isn’t connected to the Internet, you will need to troubleshoot it to get it connected first. Check all the cables and power cycle it. If you can’t get it to connect, contact your ISP for help.

If you have an Internet connection, proceed to the next step.

Connection to Your Network

Next, connect a computer, smartphone, or table to your Linksys router’s network. You can connect to it either through Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Most of the time, Ethernet is the better choice since it is more stable. However, Wi-Fi works, too, especially if your device doesn’t have an Ethernet port.

Steps to Access Your Linksys Router From Web Browser

After getting your Linksys router connected to the Internet and your device connected to its network, you can continue accessing its admin panel.

Follow these steps to access your Linksys router:

#1 Open your browser and open the network configuration page

The first thing you need to do is open a web browser on your device. You can use:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • Edge
  • Brave
  • Etc.

In the browser’s URL bar, type the Linksys router’s IP address– 192.168. 1.1 and hit enter. A web-based login page should load, asking you to enter a password. [1]

If that doesn’t work, your router’s IP address may differ. In that case, use the steps below for macOS and Windows to find your router’s IP address.

  • macOS: Open System Preferences, click on Network, select Advanced from the drop-down menu, and click on the TCP/IP tab. The IP address of the router will be next to the word Router.
  • Windows:  Open the Command Prompt program, type IPCONFIG, and hit enter. Your router’s IP address will be next to “Default Gateway.”

#2 Log in with your credentials

When the login window loads, the Linksys router portal will ask you to enter a password. The password is “admin” if you haven’t changed it, and you can leave the username blank. If you changed the password, enter that instead and hit enter.

If the router login page doesn’t load, try a different web browser, then a different device. If it still won’t load, clear your browser’s cookies, turn off your firewall, then restart your device and router.

If you forgot the password, you will have to reset your Linksys router to access it. But doing that will delete all your custom configurations, including your SSID and Wi-Fi password.

To reset your Linksys router, find the reset button on its back or bottom and press and hold it until its lights turn off. After the reset is complete, the Linksys router’s admin panel password will default to “admin.”

For newer models, the setup app may ask you to create a new password and username.

#3 Access your administration page

After providing the correct password, your Linksys router’s admin panel will load. You will see several tabs on the top of the page with settings you can adjust.

Accessing Linksys Router From the App

The Linksys App is available on Android and Apple mobile devices, and it allows you to control your Home Wi-Fi.

To access your Linksys router with the mobile app, download the app to your device. Then open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your router to the app. [2]

You can use the app to set up your Linksys router when you first get it. Inside the application, you can:

  • View a device list
  • Setup guest access
  • Prioritize devices
  • Set up parental controls
  • Set up port forwarding
  • Manage firmware updates
  • Schedule Wi-Fi at specific times
  • And more

The app doesn’t have every setting the browser-based admin panel does, but you can reboot the router and change network settings when you’re not home.

What You Can Configure in Your Linksys Router Settings

Inside your Linksys router’s admin panel, you can access all of its settings and make changes. Here are the most common settings people change or monitor:

  • Wi-Fi password– we suggest changing your Wi-Fi password around once every other month to improve security.
  • USB sharing– enable network storage, if your router has a USB port
  • Guest network– setup a temporary or permanent network for guests
  • SSID– your network’s name; you can change it to whatever you desire
  • And many more

Besides these basic settings, you can also toggle various advanced settings like IPv6, VPN, UPnP, Dynamic DNS, etc. However, you probably will never need to change these settings.

I suggest only changing them if you know what you are doing or are having network performance issues.

FAQs for Linksys Router Login Page

Here are the top questions we get about accessing Linksys routers.

How do I reset my Linksys Router?

To reset your Linksys router, find its reset button on its back or bottom. Then, press and hold the button for 10 seconds or until the light turn off and on.

After resetting it, it will return all settings to factory defaults. Your SSID, Wi-Fi password, and every other setting will revert to its original setting. However, you’ll be able to log into the admin panel with the default login credential now.

What happens if I get stuck on the login page?

Try a different web browser if you’re stuck on the login page. If that doesn’t help, try another device. If you still have issues, try the Linksys App.

If you forgot your password, you will need to reset the router to gain access to the Linksys admin panel. This will return the login credential to the default “admin” password. Follow the steps above to reset it.

What is the best modem and router?

The best modem and router depends on the networking needs of your home. Do you have many or few devices? Does your ISP provide fast speeds? What is your budget? And while Linksys is a top router brand, a different one might be better for you.
