Frontier TV: Packages, Pricing, & Channel Lineups

Frontier doesn’t offer fiber optic television to new customers anymore. Only to existing customers. They give you $10 off your monthly bill when bundling Frontier Fiber plans with YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream. For a year.

Before getting internet providers and similar products, I explore other products they offer. To help you determine whether Frontier’s worth getting, I’ve compiled all available information about Frontier’s TV products.

Once you finish this guide, you’ll know the following:

Is Frontier TV Still Available?

Frontier stopped offering their TV service to new customers in 2020 [1]. Only customers who currently use Frontier Fios TV can continue using it.

They do offer a television-like bundle you can group with your Frontier home internet products, though.

Frontier TV Packages

Frontier provides a $10 monthly discount to existing internet customers on YouTube TV (Base Plan) and DirecTV Stream (Choice package).

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a fiber or DSL customer.

I recommend doing this as a fiber customer. I’ll cover that in a second. First, I want to address the elephant in the room.

YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream are live TV streaming services. They use the internet to deliver local, national, and entertainment channels.

YouTube TV comes with the following perks:

• 3 simultaneous streams: doesn’t matter whether at home or traveling
• Share 6 accounts with your household
• Unlimited cloud DVR space

It works best for anyone who lives in a household with 3 or fewer people. And for homes that want unlimited cloud DVR storage.

DirecTV Stream charges $10 monthly for their DVR storage, but allows streaming on unlimited devices simultaneously. That makes this plan better for homes with more than 4 people.

Channel availability will vary. I’ll cover this in the next section. Before that, I want to revisit my earlier comment.

YouTube TV requires a minimum of 3.0 Mbps download speeds (per device) to stream videos [2]. DirecTV Stream demands at least 8.0 Mbps [3].

Households of 3 or fewer people will want internet plans with at least 9.0 Mbps download speeds for YouTube TV. DirecTV Stream homes with, for instance, 5 people, will need 45 Mbps.

Here’s the catch.

Devices may devour internet speed without thinking about it. For instance, your phone may automatically sync data to cloud networks.

Someone’s phone chewed through 835 MB of data while running Google Photos in the background [4]. I bring this up because you’ll want to account for this. And for anyone who frequently downloads files or software updates.

Having a fiber optic internet plan may appear as excessive. But if you have disposable income, it’ll ensure a smooth online video streaming experience.

On to channel lineups.

YouTube TV Channel Lineup

Find the following channels with YouTube TV’s base package [5]:

Local channels such as news networks will vary by ZIP code. As will variations of PBS Kids and CW.

YouTube TV offers various channel package add-ons like:

• Spanish Plus: CNN en Espanol, Fox Discovery en Espanol, & more
• Sports Plus: NFL Red Zone, Fox Soccer Plus, & more
• Premium channels: HBO, epix, etc.

Frontier doesn’t offer discounts on any channel packages add-on features (like 4K video). And they won’t discount the Spanish Plan. If you want their $24.99 a month Spanish-language plan, you’ll need to get it separately.

Frontier Residential Internet Packages

Frontier Internet products include:

Frontier Communications internet plans compared.

None of these plans have hard data caps or contracts. I suggest going with the fiber plans over DSL if both are available in your area.

Digital service line products include a $10 equipment rental fee. The fiber plans don’t. You’ll pay almost the same amount for less speed.

The 500 Mbps download and upload speed package will suffice most households’ needs. More than 20 devices could simultaneously stream 4K videos online without buffering.

The upload speeds will support more than 5 people livestreaming at the same time.

1,000 Mbps works better for remote workers. Or someone who’ll download and upload large files frequently. The symmetric internet speeds allow you to send and download files quicker.

I give examples in my Frontier Internet guide. This guide SHOULD focus on Frontier’s TV products. Thus, I’ll provide an overview of the plans’ speed use cases.

The 2,000 Mbps plan is unnecessary for most scenarios. Unless you manage a home media server. In that case, you’ll frequently upload and download hundreds of gigs of data. You’ll need speeds to make this process not take forever.

• Monday–Friday: 8 am–10 pm
• Saturday: 8 am–9 pm

Get $10 off YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream (Choice package) for a year when getting a Frontier Internet plan.

Go for the fiber plans and get free Amazon eero routers or a visa gift card. The amount on the visa gift card will vary by plan. I crunched the numbers in a separate guide.

Frontier doesn’t offer discounts for students, seniors, first responders, or other groups. But with the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) credit, you’ll get $30–$75 off your internet bill.

Only households with at least one person participating in government benefits programs can receive this credit.

Visit affordableconnectivity.gov to see if you qualify. If so, apply ASAP.

Did the government accept you into the program? Call Frontier at 844-342-7501 and tell their customer support. From there, they will add the credit to your bill.

Conclusion

Frontier Fiber doesn’t offer television services to new customers. They only offer $10 off YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream to existing Frontier customers. Promotions DirecTV and YouTube TV offer through their own sites.

If you’re considering Frontier as an internet provider, I recommend bundling fiber internet with either live TV streaming service. You get more than 100 channels, a buffer-free experience, and no excessive fees.
