What Is the Verizon Fios Internet 300 Mbps Plan?

The Fios 300 Mbps home internet plan gives residents in nine states 300/300 Mbps internet speeds. These plans don’t require contracts and can accommodate most households’ internet needs.

Many networks use hybrid cable and fiber networks to deliver internet signals. Fiber optics transmit data over long distances. And copper cables deliver the rest of the signal to your home.

But Verizon Fios uses only fiber cables. That means you won’t have a degraded network signal. Unlike traditional cable internet, which falls susceptible to electromagnetic interference and bad weather conditions.

Who Is the Verizon Fios 300 Mbps Best For?

Verizon’s 300 Mbps plan can handle over eight devices simultaneously performing various online tasks. You’ll want to use 300 Mbps speeds for these scenarios:

• Running at least four home security cameras
• Streaming 4K video on a few devices
• Remote workers in homes with at least three people
• Cloud gaming (gaming-as-a-service) on a couple of devices
• Frequent file downloads (at least under 50 GB)

Here are some speed requirements you’ll need to remember [1]:

While 300 Mbps acts as Verizon’s lowest Fios home internet plan, it still exceeds the speeds many homes will need. If you add the above speeds, you’ll only use 124/11.5 Mbps. And that’s for a household with at least five or six people.

You still have plenty of bandwidth for background tasks, having visitors, or downloading and uploading files.

Let’s explore use cases that can use these speeds most.

Telecommuting

300 Mbps download and upload speeds gives work from home professionals more than enough speeds to perform most online tasks.

At least eight devices can simultaneously watch 4K resolution content on online streaming services without buffering.

Most streaming platforms have the same speed requirements for 4K (25 Mbps).

And 300 Mbps download and upload speeds should make it so everyone in your home can watch series or movies online without interrupting anyone else’s online experience.

Playing Video Games Online

You can play online games casually and competitively with no issues with a 300 Mbps internet plan.

You’ll need to think about these speeds when gaming online:

When gaming on a console or PC, you won’t have to worry about background patch updates, or anyone else in your home, interrupting your experience.

However, you’ll need to pay attention to the file sizes you’re downloading. A 10 GB file would take around four minutes to download without any other active devices on your network.

But while you’re gaming, it MAY impact your experience.

File Uploads and Downloads

300 Mbps download speeds allow you to download a 5 GB file in less than two and a half minutes. Or you can upload a 250 MB file in over 13 seconds.

You could get away with using this plan for backing up files on a personal cloud storage server. But not for video editors. Unless you’re a beginning editor who doesn’t have much disposable income.

While 300 Mbps is fast, I’d opt for higher speeds if you’re dealing with time-sensitive scenarios. Because you don’t want to spend more time than needed uploading files for a client, right?

Verizon Fios Internet 300 Mbps Price

The Fios 300 Mbps home internet package costs $49.99 monthly with a two-year price guarantee. You’ll only pay $24.99 monthly if also using an Unlimited Wireless plan.

The price guarantee means Verizon won’t raise your home internet price for a set duration. Within the two years, you’ll pay $24.99–$49.99 and nothing more. Without considering tax or other fees.

Verizon Wireless will perform a credit check on you with this plan. And if you don’t have the greatest credit, you may have to pay a refundable security deposit.

However, they don’t tell us the credit score required to waive the deposit.

You’ll also need to pay a $99 upfront activation fee to start your services. Ordering online can eliminate this fee. So I don’t recommend activating Fios home internet in person.

Verizon Wireless Fios Internet 300 Mbps Plan Features

Perks you’ll get with the Fios 300 Mbps home internet plan include:

• $100 off a StreamTV Soundbar and Soundbar Pro
• Free SimpliSafeWiFi Security Camera (worth $99): and one month of monitoring, free
• No bandwidth cap
• Two-year price guarantee

The regular StreamTV sound bar costs $399, so you’ll pay $299. And the Soundbar Pro costs $999. $899 with the discount.

Should you get these soundbars?

It depends.

If you have a smart home on a Google Assistant ecosystem, then yes. Because you can use it with Chromecast.

And from what I’ve heard, it has decent sound quality.

I recommend trying it if you need a sound bar for your home. Verizon offers a 30-day return policy (for any reason).

Verizon used to offer Verizon Wi-Fi Connect public wireless hotspot services for free. But in 2017, they removed the service entirely [2].

And while you get free security equipment, you will have to pay a monitoring fee. I’ll cover that in the next paragraph.

Anyway, here are some paid features you can get for every Fios plan:

Verizon Cloud gives you cloud storage services that integrate well with 5G cellular plans. The cost isn’t bad, plus it’s a great way to back up contacts, call logs, and files.

And with the 600 GB plan, you’ll likely have more storage than you’d ever need.

SimpliSafe gives you professional home security. Verizon doesn’t have in-house home security, so they partnered with them.

You’ll get a month free so that you can test the service.

And the router.

If you’re going with the 300 Mbps plan to save money, I recommend just buying your own router. However, you’ll need one that works with Verizon Fios.

Because this router supports speeds up to 10 Gbps. That’s a bit overkill with this plan.

But Verizon’s Fios router gives you access to Wi-Fi 6E, which gives you 6 GHz frequencies. And this band makes it so your router can support significantly more channels. This leads to higher Wi-Fi speeds.

Fios Internet 300 Mbps Plan Contract

All Verizon Fios home internet, home phone, and TV plans don’t have a contract or early termination fees.

They made a decision a while ago to remove these [3].

Besides the 100 Mbps Prepaid Internet plan, 300 Mbps gives you the lowest monthly price for internet.

But whether you get Prepaid or regular Fios packages depends on whether you want to avoid a credit check. Because you’ll need one to get the regular 300, 500, and 940 Mbps plans.

And with these plans, you may have a deposit. So if you don’t have the best credit, I recommend trying the Fios Prepaid plans.

Anyway:

The 300 Mbps plan. Don’t get any higher speeds unless your home needs quicker internet. Because this plan does great with smaller households.

Optimum Fiber Internet 300 offers the lowest price, symmetric speeds (same download and upload speed), and no data cap. But it’s only available in these states:

Verizon offers the second-best value while charging $10 more monthly. Spectrum sets the same price, but also has the worst upload speeds (tied with Xfinity).

But you’ll only find Verizon Wireless Fios internet in nine states. If you can get it, I recommend doing so.

Xfinity charges the most, and they have a data cap. But they’re available in over 40 states. If you can’t go with the above internet service providers, you may have to go with Xfinity Comcast.
