Verizon Fios TV Pros & Cons
Here are the pros and cons of using Verizon TV over cable and satellite television providers:
Pros
- No contracts
- Plenty of available channels
- Competitive
- More stability compared to other television service types
Cons
- Limited availability
- You must use a Verizon TV box (no third-party options allowed)
Is Verizon TV Good?
Verizon TV has limited availability in the U.S. But if you can access this service, and have the money, go for it. You don’t have to trap yourself in a contract and won’t have to deal with early contract termination fees.
It uses fiber optic signals to deliver television services to your home. That means you’ll have significantly fewer interruptions when watching TV compared to cable and satellite TV.
You could think of Fios TV like a streaming service, but without the internet speed requirements.
Verizon Fios TV Plans & Pricing
Here are Verizon’s Fios TV plans:
Tier | * Price | Number of Channels | Price Per Channel |
Fios TV Test Drive | $70/mo. | 425+ | NA |
Your Fios TV | $70/mo. | 125+ | $0.56 |
More Fios TV | $90/mo. | 300+ | $0.30 |
The Most Fios TV | $110/mo. | 425+ | $0.25 |
YouTube TV | $64.99/mo. | 85+ | $0.74 |
Mundo Total TV | $110/mo. | 225+ | $0.48 |
Mundo TV | $90/mo. | 210+ | $0.42 |
* These prices factor in Verizon’s automatic and paperless billing discount. It doesn’t consider taxes and other fees.
Mundo and Mundo TV plans serve as Verizon’s Spanish channel packages.
Otherwise, these plans offer perks like:
- $50–$200 Verizon Gift Card: you won’t get this with the Fios Test Drive plan
- 100% fiber optic television: no hybrids
- Basic- and multi-room DVR services: you must pay for these separately
- My Fios streaming app free: for 2 months
- Many sports packages
Fios Test Drive
Verizon only offers the Fios Test Drive TV package for 60 days. Once that time passes, you’ll have to choose one of Verizon’s other television plans.
I’ll explain more about this plan in the section ‘The Most Fios’. Because they’re essentially the same plan.
Your Fios TV
Your Fios TV includes more than 125 channels. It’s an excellent plan to save money and access basic channels.
You’ll get a free $50 Verizon gift card for your bill, phones, or whatever else. Then you’ll get 1 free set-top box (television box). Additional boxes will cost $12 per month each.
And you’ll have 2 months to try streaming My Fios content on unlimited devices. My Fios works great with saving money on set-top boxes and enabling anyone to watch Verizon TV channels almost anywhere.
You don’t get access to Verizon’s DVR service with this plan. So if you want an included DVR, choose the other packages.
More Fios TV
More Fios TV comes with 300+ channels and is a perfect balance between channels and price. You’ll want this plan if you want to save $20 on your TV bill while still getting hundreds of channels.
It includes a basic DVR service, a $50 Verizon gift card, and a 2 month trial of Verizon’s unlimited streaming on the Verizon Fios TV app.
By ‘unlimited streaming,’ I mean you could have hundreds of devices simultaneously watching stuff on the My Fios app.
The Most Fios
The Most Fios gives you over 425 channels and simultaneous streaming on unlimited devices when using the My Fios mobile application. The plan works best for homes with at least 3 or more users simultaneously watching Fios channels.
But you only have a maximum of 2 simultaneous streams when using Amazon Fire TV or Apple TV devices.
But this plan saves you from having to get additional set-top boxes. For instance, if your household has 5 rooms that need TV boxes, you can save $60 per month by just having people stream on tablets or other smart devices.
Then you have the multi-room DVR service. It’s excellent for allowing multiple rooms to record stuff while they’re away or on a different channel.
And the $200 Verizon gift card.
You must maintain this Fios TV plan for at least 65 consecutive days. You can’t just get the plan, claim the gift card, then cancel.
If you’re hesitant about paying so much for TV services, you can try the Fios TV Test Drive plan. You’ll get all the channels included in The Most Fios TV.
Perfect for ensuring everyone in your home will watch all the included channels.
YouTube TV
You can get a YouTube TV plan through Verizon and access over 85 channels. It works best for anyone who doesn’t want to pay for a Verizon TV box or a DVR.
That’s because this plan doesn’t require any rental equipment.
It also gives you unlimited DVR storage space, and you can have up to 6 individual accounts (for each person on your plan).
It charges the most per channel but saves you up to $30 per month on DVR services and $12 a month per TV box. If you want more than 2 television boxes.
Verizon Fios TV Channel Lineup
Verizon Fios television has over 485 channels you can get, depending on the plan you choose. These include high definition (HD), standard definition, 4K, Spanish, sports, local, and music channels.
To find your channel easier, use keyboard shortcuts CTRL+F (Windows) or Command+F (Mac) and type the channel you want to see.
For instance, use the keyboard shortcut and type “Cartoon Network,” and the page will take you to that result.
Be careful, though. Because the page search command may also take you to “Cartoon Network HD”.
Anyway, here’s the Verizon TV channel lineup based on the plan you choose:

Channel availability will differ based on your location.
For instance, you may not find the New York City Government NYC TV CDL channel if you’re a subscriber in Maryland.
I didn’t include the tens of music channels these plans include. I also didn’t put in premium channels. Because you’ll need to subscribe to these separately.
Your Fios TV includes SOME HD channels. I didn’t include these above.
Don’t rely on my list to help you decide what Fios plan to choose. Type verizon.com/info/channel-lineup into your address bar, enter your ZIP code, and Verizon will give you a personalized list of channels.

I wrote a separate guide where I covered each channel’s number. I also included HD sports networks and premium channels.
I didn’t include those in this list. Because this page would take forever to write.
When going with The Most Fios plan, you’ll get ALL of these channels, the HD sports channels, and high definition premium channels (if you pay for separate subscriptions).
You may only find some of these channels on other Fios plans.
Verizon Fios also has 4K channels (Fios 4K 1–7). But most of them appear to just play various sports networks. So if you’re a sports enthusiast with a 4K TV, you’ll love these plans.
YouTube TV has 4K support. But Verizon only offers the base YouTube TV plan, so it doesn’t support 4K.
Verizon Fios TV Packages
The following sections will cover add-on channel packages for Verizon TV. These include:
- Sports
- Premium channels
- Spanish regional packages
- International packages
Keep reading to learn whether they’re worth adding.
Verizon Fios Sports Package Channel List
Here are sports packages you can get with Verizon TV:
Pass Name | * Price | Season |
NHL Center Ice | $49.99 | Half season |
NBA League Pass | $28.99 | Half season |
MBA Extra Innings | $139.99 | Regular season |
MLB Premium | $139.99 | Regular season |
MLS Direct Kick | NA | NA |
Fox Soccer Plus | $14.99/mo. | NA |
* These prices don’t include sales tax.
Verizon Fios Premium Channel Lineup
Verizon TV offers HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ, CINEMAX, and EPIX premium channels for the following rates:
- 1 channel for $15 monthly
- 2 channels for $25 monthly
- 3 channels for $30 monthly
- All 5 channels for $40 monthly
Not the best deal for premium channels. Considering that with Xfinity you can get CINEMAX for $12 a month and STARZ for $8.99 a month.
But no provider’s perfect.
Verizon Fios Spanish Packages List
Verizon offers Spanish channel packages for $10 monthly (for the first package), then $5 per month for each additional region you add.
Here are the Spanish regions you can access:
Region | Number of Channels |
Mexico | 53 |
Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Central America | 50 |
Peru, Columbia, Ecuador, and more | 50 |
Spain | 49 |
Verizon Fios TV International Channels
You can order channels in various languages with Verizon TV. These plans include:
Region | Number of Channels | * Price |
Korean | 4 | $25/mo. |
Korean Plus | 5 | $30/mo. |
Cantonese | NA | $35/mo. |
Mandarin | 6 | $14/mo. |
Hindi | 2 | $20/mo. |
Hindi Plus | 6 | $34/mo. |
Filipino | 2 | $24.99/mo. |
Italian | 2 | $15/mo. |
Russian | 1 | $15/mo. |
Russian Plus | 2 | $30/mo. |
French | NA | $11.99/mo. |
Portuguese | 2 | $15/mo. |
Portuguese Plus | 3 | $25/mo. |
* These prices don’t include state and local taxes.
You’ll have to pay separate monthly fees for each plan. But they’re great add-ons to access channels, series, and movies you can’t get with your current streaming services.
Best Verizon Fios TV Plans
The following sections will cover the best Verizon TV plans for certain groups of people.
Your Fios TV: Best for Budget
Your Fios TV comes with more than 125 channels and offers the best value while saving money.
While YouTube TV technically acts as Verizon’s cheapest TV plan, it only has 85+ channels. So you’ll need to compare the channels both plans offer to see which works better for your home’s needs.
YouTube TV requires internet, so you’ll need to free up some bandwidth to use it. Meanwhile, Verizon Fios TV doesn’t.
The Most Fios TV: Best for Splurging
The Most Fios TV Verizon television plan comes with over 425 channels, streaming on unlimited devices, multi-room DVR service, and a $200 Verizon gift card.
The plan’s perfect for homes with over 4 rooms that want access to a massive variety of channels. Unlike other Fios TV plans, you can watch stuff on the My Fios TV app on as many devices as you want.
So you could simultaneously watch House of the Dragon on a tablet while the TV is in front of you. Meanwhile, the news plays on a background TV. Then the rest of your family could watch their own shows on separate devices.
There’s one minor caveat, which I explained earlier.
You could test this plan with Fios TV Test Drive to see whether your household will watch all the included channels. It’s 44% cheaper than getting The Most Fios TV immediately and will last you around 60 days.
Verizon Fios TV Hidden Fees
Here are additional mandatory and optional fees that you’ll need to pay with Verizon TV services:
Fee Type | Amount |
Digital Adapter | $10/mo. |
Set-top Box Rental Fee | $12/mo. (first box is free) |
CableCARD | $10/mo. |
DVR Service | $12/mo. |
Multi-room DVR Service (Enhanced) | $20/mo. |
Multi-room DVR Service (Premium) | $30/mo. |
Seasonal Service Suspension | $50 |
Service Charge | Up to $100 |
Tech Visit Charge | Up to $100 (additional charges may apply) |
Outlet Installation or Relocation | $60 |
Upgrade or Add Set-top Box | $60 |
TV Equipment Installation | Up to $100 |
TV Equipment Upgrade | $50 |
Fios TV Setup (Activating Existing Outlets) | $99 |
Fios TV Setup (Activating New Outlets) | $160 |
The only fees that you can get around include the DVR, adding more boxes, and the activation fee (for existing outlets).
To waive the activation fee, you must order online.
Check out other fees you’ll have to pay with Verizon here.
Verizon TV Equipment
Verizon Fios TV requires an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and a TV box to work. Your box will also include the Verizon Fios TV Remote (the P265 Remote).
Don’t confuse this with the Fios One Remote. That remote’s only for the Fios TV One and the Fios TV One Mini.
The P265 doesn’t have voice navigation. So you have to deal with what seems like a million analog controls.
I wanted to include the remote codes to program your remote with any TV, but that would make this guide extremely long. Fortunately, Verizon included EVERY Fios remote code on their website.
Now let’s talk about delivering Fios to your home.
Without the ONT, your home couldn’t read the fiber optic signals sent by Verizon. So this device acts like a translator from Verizon to your TV box.
Speaking of.
For the most part, you can’t use a third-party television box with Verizon TV [1]. Only a few models exist that you can use with Fios, but the source I linked was written in 2009.
So I would take the information it offers with a grain of salt.
The first set-top box comes free with your plan, anyway.
Then you’ll pay $12 monthly per consecutive box you get. You could go for YouTube TV and skip top boxes entirely. Or you can use the Fios TV mobile app to avoid paying for extra boxes.
I’ll cover details on that in a second. Let’s see how to get Fios TV.
How To Get Verizon TV
Visit Verizon’s website and click the ‘Check availability’ button. If Fios TV is available in your area, add it to your cart, order your equipment, and ship it to your home.
You COULD go to a Verizon Fios store and order it in-person, but then you can’t waive the setup fee.
Verizon Fios TV Availability
Here are the cities and states in the US that support Verizon TV:
- Washington DC
- Virginia
- Richmond
- Norfolk
- Rhode Island
- Providence
- Pennsylvania
- Pittsburgh
- Philadelphia
- Harrisburg
- Massachusetts
- Boston
- Delaware
- New York
- New York City
- Buffalo
- Albany
- Staten Island
- Syracuse
- Plattsburgh
- Maryland
- Baltimore
- New Jersey
Verizon TV is only available in 9 states and a select group of metropolitan areas. Before getting Verizon TV, check to ensure whether they support it in your area.
You’ll want to double-check in case they add support for more cities and states.
Verizon Fios TV Deals
Verizon TV doesn’t have any deals at this time. However, you can get discounts on Verizon Fios internet, which I recommend pairing with Fios TV.
For instance, teachers, those in the military, and other groups can get up to $25 off of Verizon internet plans. Check out our Verizon internet deals page to learn more.
Verizon TV Bundles
You can bundle Verizon Fios TV, voice, and internet services to make accessing your services easier. But you don’t get a discount for bundling Verizon Fios services.
The only discounts you’ll get when bundling is when you get qualifying Verizon 5G Unlimited plans and home internet plans. Then you’ll get 50% off home internet.
To help you determine whether it’s worth bundling Verizon Fios services, here’s a table:
Fios Bundle | Price | Channels |
Double Play: Your Fios TV & Home Phone | $95/mo. | 125+ |
Double Play: More Fios TV & Gigabit Connection | $154.99/mo. | 300+ |
Triple Play: The Most Fios TV, Home Phone, & Gigabit Connection | $199.99/mo. | 425+ |
Verizon Fios home internet offers some of the best network speeds I’ve seen in the U.S. Because it’s synonymous (same upload and download speeds) and comes with a bunch of freebies.
And you’ll get all these freebies when bundling Verizon TV and internet (or phone).
The Fios landline service just acts as a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) service that makes it so you can call people over the internet.
Verizon TV Customer Service
The best ways to reach Verizon Fios customer service include calling 800-300-4184, using the live chat feature on their website, or chatting on Facebook Messenger.
You’ll instantly reach someone when using their live chat feature. But there’s a caveat. You can only contact someone between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm (ET).
When calling, you’ll need to continually say “speak to an agent” to pass through their automated assistant.
I haven’t had the best experience dealing with their customer service. They ignored my question about their student plan and gave me an irrelevant link.
But everyone’s experiences will differ. Don’t let my experience deter you from going with Verizon. You should check out my guide regarding navigating their customer service department.
Fios TV Mobile App
The Fios Home TV app makes it so 5 devices can simultaneously stream Fios TV services from any compatible device. You can watch everything without using data while you’re on the move.
You can’t use the data-free viewing while in California. They don’t specify the reasoning for this. Possibly because of data privacy laws.
This app works best for larger households or for people who travel frequently.
Or you can watch this stuff at home.
You can access the following media from this app:
- Downloads
- Premium channels
- DVR recordings
- On Demand
- Bookmarks
- Every channel on your Fios plan (if watching in-home)
- A smaller selection of channels if you’re watching on-the-go
It has an excellent search feature. You can search for movies, shows, or whatever else by using ratings, genres, and other filters.
You can download this app on these platforms:
Devices must run at least one of these operating systems:
- Android 5.0+
- Chromecast: Ultra, Third Gen., Second Gen., and First Generation
- iOS 12+
But it won’t support these devices:
Chromebooks | Smart TVs | Fire TV | Android TV |
Emulators | Blackberry 1 | Certain Android devices with Intel processors | Kindle Gen. 1–4 |
Simulators | Jailbroken or rooted devices |
The Verizon Fios TV mobile app isn’t available outside the United States or its unincorporated territories (like Guam).
Verizon DVR
Verizon Fios digital video recorder (DVR) lets you record programs while you focus your time viewing other content.
This works great if 2 series were on at the same time you wanted to watch. At 9:30 pm, Rick and Morty is on one channel, and American Dad is on another. You could use the DVR to record American Dad while you watch Rick and Morty.
Then you could come back to your recorded DVR footage and watch it later.
Fios TV One Box
The Verizon Fios TV One allows you to start recording a show in one room, then access it in a different room. You’ll need to pay an additional $30 monthly to use this box.
This service (and equipment) works best for homes with people who frequently shift between rooms. For instance, if you record stuff in the family room, then watch it later in your office.
However, this TV box acts as more than just a DVR. You can also watch apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Pluto TV.
But you can’t download additional apps.
Then you can watch select content in 4K. For instance, you could get Video on Demand (VOD) movies and watch them on a 4K TV.
You can integrate them with Alexa and Google Home ecosystems. So you could use your smart home assistants to navigate to certain channels or play content on their speakers.
These boxes include the Fios TV Voice remote. You can control your Fios TV One device using voice commands like “Find videos of alpacas with hats on YouTube.”
Verizon TV vs. Competitors
The following sections will compare Verizon Fios TV services to these television providers:
- Comcast Xfinity
- DirecTV
Let’s explore.
Verizon TV vs. Xfinity Comcast Cable Television
Verizon Fios TV gives you fiber optic television, has no contracts, and offers over 425 channels. In contrast, Xfinity offers more availability throughout the U.S. and bundling discounts.
Xfinity Comcast cable TV plans will save you money during your term agreement (e.g., a 12-month contract), but once that time passes, you could notice a 26% or higher increase in your bill.
But you can bundle your cable TV with home internet and save money. Whereas, you can’t bundle Fios internet and TV and save.
If you’re in the handful of states Verizon Fios supports, go with them instead of Xfinity. You save money, have more reliable TV, more channels, and don’t have to deal with contracts.
That means no cancellation fees.
Verizon TV vs. DirecTV
Fios TV charges less for their services, but more for TV boxes. It also doesn’t have signal loss during lousy weather. DirecTV only beats Verizon TV by offering its services in every state.
Neither option will work for you if you’re in a rural area. Because, for the most part, you’ll only find fiber TV in cities. Then satellite television requires clear skies.
Unless you live in an area with a WIDE opening, you’ll have a horrendous experience with DirecTV dishes.
For folks living in woodsy areas, you should choose cable TV.
Is Verizon TV Worth It?
Verizon Fios television plans cost a bit, but they offer amazing value. Here’s why:
- Less downtime compared to satellite and cable TV
- DVR included with most plans
- Way more channels than competitors
- 4K support
If Fios TV is available in your area, you should try to get it.
