Should You Get Xfinity TV?
Xfinity TV is good. It’s not mind-blowingly good, but nonetheless a suitable option for many. This is especially true if you have or plan to get other Xfinity services (like their internet). Because once you start bundling their services, the prices get very competitive.
That said, if you only want their TV service, I would recommend making sure they have a good current offer. Because otherwise, you might end up paying more than you need to, as both DISH and DIRECTV often have very competitive offers.
Comcast Xfinity TV Pros & Cons

Comcast Xfinity TV Bundles & Deals
You can choose to include both internet and TV in your TV package. If you do, you get something called a bundle, which is often a better deal than getting the services separate.

Comcast Xfinity TV Promotions
Xfinity also offers some promotions and deals when you get their services. This is especially the case if you bundle more than one service.
For example, if you get Xfinity TV service or internet, you can get Xfinity Flex for $5/month, a TV box that works very much like an Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, or Roku.
You also get Peacock Premium without extra costs if you get Xfinity TV and internet. Which, as you probably already know, is a streaming service with more than 40,000 hours of content.
That said, some of Xfinity’s offers are a bit questionable. For example, they say that if you turn on automatic and paperless billing, you get $10 off monthly. The thing is that the prices they advertise already have the $10 deducted. So, in my opinion, it’s more of a penalty than an offer.
You will also get a free subscription to some of Xfinity’s premium channels in some high-tier bundles. This might include something like HBO, Showtime, and Netflix.
And like we already talked about, if you bundle multiple Xfinity services, you might get up to $30/month off.
For more info, check out our page on Xfinity promotions.
Contract vs. No-Contract plans
Most Xfinity TV plans have a one to two years contract. This means that the rate you pay the first year will be less than you pay the second or the third.
These offers are good for you who know that you won’t move because you get a lower price. But if you have to cancel a contract plan early, it will cost you.
The exact fee depends on your package, but generally, it’s around $10/month you have left of the contract.
So, you might then conclude that a no-contract plan is better if you are to move soon – but wait, that’s not certain.
Because a no-contract plan will cost $10 extra per month. This means that an early cancelation fee will be cheaper if you have paid for more than half the contract.
So keep that in mind when you are deciding between the two.
The Hidden Costs of Comcast Xfinity TV
Here are the hidden fees you need to watch out for in your Xfinity TV service bill.
Fee | Cost |
Professional installation | $89.99 |
Reactivation fee | $6.00 |
Broadcast TV fee | $19.45/mo. |
Regional sports fee | $14.45/mo. |
DVR service fee | 150 hours for $10.00/mo. |
HD technology fee | $9.95/mo. |
X1 4K Streaming Box | $7.50/mo. (need one per TV) |
Late payment fee | $10.00 |
Extra Premium Channels (HBO, Showtime, and more) | $5.00-$19.99/mo. per channel |
Taxes and other fees | ~$3-$10 (depend on where you live) |
The taxes and other fees are an amount Xfinity will add to your bill every month. The exact amount depends on where you live, but it is not more than a couple of dollars.
It’s also worth mentioning that your prices can increase as much as $30 after your promo period. This period is usually between one to two years.
My recommendation is always to renegotiate your package the day your contract ends.

Comcast Xfinity Cable TV Availability
Xfinity TV service is available wherever Xfinity internet or voice service is available. This means you can get the other if you have any services.
Below is a map of the 40 states Xfinity TV is covering.
More on Xfinity availability here.
Comcast Xfinity Equipment
Below you can learn about Xfinity’s equipment you can and will get with Xfinity TV. For a more general overview, read this article.
Xfinity X1
Xfinity’s X1 allows you to record programs that you can’t watch live. Each box (you need one per TV) costs you $7,50/month.
All packages include at least 20 hours of DVR storage. This means that you can record and save up to 20 hours of programs on your X1. [2]
If you need more than 20 hours, you can upgrade to 150 or 300 hours. These will cost you an additional $10 and $20 per month.
My experience is that it won’t be necessary for most, as you simply remove everything you have watched. Still, it might be great for some of you TV lovers out there.
Also, depending on where you live and what is in stock, you will get one of three boxes. However, the boxes are all the same when it comes to features.
That said if you get a standard HD TV box, you want to watch out for the RNG150N model. This model will not work with your voice remote. If you want to make sure you won’t get this model. Contact Xfinity’s rep when ordering.
Xfinity Flex
If you don’t feel like any TV packages are for you, but you already have Xfinity internet, consider getting Flex.
It costs $5/month and gives you a device to live-stream on-demand apps like Pluto, Tubi, Xumo, YouTube, and many more. This means that you will get access to more than 200 channels and thousands of movies (Xfinity alone has more than 10,000 of them)
It also gives you access to watch or listen to services like HBO, Netflix, Pandora, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Spotify. All directly from your flex device.
Just note, Xfinity gives all their internet customers this not because of their heart’s kindness, but rather to make customers more “sticky”. Making it more inconvenient for you to switch to another provider.
To learn more, read our Xfinity Flex review.
Xfinity Voice Remote
Both Xfinity Flex and the X1 Box come with a voice remote. There are two models which look different but have the same functions.
These features include: [3]
- Voice control
- Backlit keypad
- Aim Anywhere feature
- Automatic pairing
- Skip 5-minute on live TV or DVR recording
- Skip 10-minute on Xfinity On Demand
- Accessibility features like Closed Captioning, video description, and voice guidance
- TV input control
Comcast Xfinity Add-ons
Xfinity has a couple of ways to stream its service. Here are they:
Xfinity Stream App
You will get the Xfinity Stream App for free if you have an Xfinity TV plan. The Xfinity Stream app lets you watch Xfinity’s content from your TV, computer, tablet, or smartphone.
You can, for example, watch all your DVR recordings, most of Xfinity’s in-demand titles, and up to 200+ live channels (depending on your plan).
You can also set up the DVR recording and manage the parental controls from the app. In my experience, the app is very user-friendly and fast.
Moreover, you can also watch the Xfinity Stream app with up to five devices simultaneously. This is better than many other providers (such as DISH), which only allow for one stream at a time.
Lastly, you can also download movies and programs. This makes it possible to watch them when offline.
To learn more, read our review on Xfinity’s Stream app.
Xfinity On-Demand
For some Xfinity TV packages, you will also get Xfinity On-Demand. It comes with thousands of movies, the latest episode of the top 100 TV shows, and the ability to rent and buy titles.
You can also download movies and series. For example, allowing you to watch them when you are offline, like on an airplane.
Overall, I found Xfinity On-Demand useful, even though it didn’t have all the movies I wish it had. But nowadays, it feels like you can say that about all the streaming services.
Peacock
Peacock is a streaming TV service owned by Comcast, which also owns Xfinity. Thus they include Peacock Premium in all their TV and internet plans.
There are three Peacock plans, one free with ads, one premium with ads, and one called premium plus without ads.
Plan | Ads | Price | Hours of content | Streams |
Peacock | Yes | Free | 40,000+ | 3 |
Peacock Premium | Yes | $4.99/month | 40,000+ | 3 |
Peacock Premium Plus | No | $9.99/month | 60,000+ | 3 |
In my opinion, Peacock premium shouldn’t have ads. Nothing you pay for should!
Nevertheless, their free version is a good offer since it’s free. And I found that most of what I wanted to watch was there.
Peacock premium also includes live sports events but not offline viewing. Both are included in the Premium Plus version, and none are included in the free version.
I recommend starting with the free version and moving to the paid one if you find enough things you want to watch on the paid version or if the ads are too annoying.
Comcast Xfinity Cable Customer Service
To reach Xfinity’s TV customer service call: (800) 934-6489.
Before you call, ensure you have your address, account number, and phone number connected with your Xfinity account.
The support is open between 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday — Saturday.
How good is Comcast Xfinity Customer Support?
A couple of years ago, Xfinity got a lot of criticism for their support being bad, and this was certainly the case.
Since then, however, they have restructured and become a lot better – not perfect – but better.
This is strengthened by Xfinity’s customer satisfaction ratings, which got 67/100 in 2021. This is nothing incredible, but still the third-best of all the internet providers.
Comcast Xfinity TV vs. the Competition
Comcast Xfinity TV compares well with the competition, especially if you bundle their TV service.
That said, some other providers might be better depending on the current offers and your location.
Here are some common options you might stand between.
Provider | Xfinity | AT&T | Spectrum |
Starting price at | $34.99/month* | $64.99/month* | $49.99/month* |
Channels | 10+ | 160+ | 125+ |
Streaming Access | Xfinity Stream | DIRECTV Stream | Spectrum TV App |
Records | 6 shows at once | 4-6 depending on your service | 2-6 depending on your device |
Contract | 0-2 years contract | 0-2 years contract | 0-2 years contract |
Xfinity TV Customer Satisfaction Ratings
According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index, Xfinity scored 66/100 in 2021 [4]. And while an improvement compared to their 2020 score of 63/100, it still fell short of AT&T, Verizon, DISH, and DIRECTV. Which all got a better score.
According to the J.D. Power, another consumer satisfaction index, Xfinity TV customer satisfaction was somewhere in the middle of the TV providers. Above Spectrum but below both DISH and DIRECTV.
Just note that this is just an average satisfaction; your experience with Xfinity and any other provider might differ substantially.
For example, my family has personally been very happy with our Xfinity service. Even though we make sure to renegotiate every other year to ensure the best prices possible.
Bottom Line – Is Xfinity TV Worth It?
Overall, I think Xfinity TV is worth it if you bundle it with their internet service. You can get really good deals if you bundle it with their phone service and maybe even home security.
However, if you only want Xfinity TV, I would stop and make sure they have the best available deal. Because even though their X1 device and Flex access are good, you can get similar features from DISH and DIRECTV for an often lower price.
Make sure to compare the current offer of all three providers before you make your choice!
FAQ about Xfinity TV
Here are some common questions about Xfinity TV.
Is my first-year pricing locked in?
Yes. Whether you have a contract plan or not, you will always lock in the first year. This means you can be sure that your monthly bill stays the same the entire first year.
Can I Start Without an Xfinity Contract?
Yes, you can. But I would only recommend you do so if you are sure you will move before half the contract has passed. Because otherwise, it’s generally cheaper to pay the early termination fee.
You do, however, have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Hence, if you’re not happy, you can change to another provider within 30 days.
How much does Xfinity TV cost?
It depends on your packets. But as of writing this, the cheapest TV package is just $30/month.
Do I need a cable box for every TV with Xfinity?
Yes, you do. Whether you pick the X1 box or the standard box, you will still need a box. This box will always set you back $7.50/month.
How do I pay my Xfinity bill?
You can pay your Xfinity bill from their app online on their website. Either way is, in my experience, very easy and straightforward.
